Haha, was jk about the RIP thing, forgot sarcasm doesn't come across very well on the internet. Serious abut the drumming though, I'll give the next record a chance but I have a bad feeling they're not going to make another album with the aggressiveness of Leviathan or Blood Mountain.

Brann was at his best on Blood Mountain IMO, as was the entire band, but that was the first time I heard drums that made me stop and go "whoa".

You Hunter hater's clearly aren't suckers for lyrics/vocal melodies. Brann's just been too busy singing instead of putting fills everywhere.

Man The Hunter has the worst lyrics of all their albums too. The first time I head Curl the Burl I almost turned the album off because the lyrics were so cringe-worthy. The only good songs on the Hunter are clearly B-tracks that didn't make Crack the Skye (Black Tongue, The Sparrow.)

What you chattin man? They were the best lyrics ever, sure they were silly but that's why I liked them.

Neither of those songs are Crack the skye-ish in my opinion. If they were B-sides, they were B sides because they didn't fit with the album.
To be fair, it took me a while to get into The Hunter. But I remember just listening to it all the way through on the journey up to Scotland, songs like Stargasm, All the heavy lifting and the title track got me hooked.

I love the vocal melodies on the Hunter, but it's by far my least favorite Mastodon album. That's not to say it's bad by any means though. Been jamming to the old 9 song demo a ton recently, Eric Saner's vocals are awesome.
