How far gone is this Edge III?

Hi everyone. Recently got a used Ibanez with an Edge III trem of CL...haven't bought an Ibanez since the late 90's and didn't realize all the issues this trem has.

I recently set it up but it was going out of tune whenever I used the whammy bar so I pulled out the trem. Couldn't find any pics online for comparison, so I'm asking here.

How far gone is this?

The Edge III has a pretty bad reputation. From the looks it, I'd say that someone adjusted the bridge height without removing the string tension, which would cause wear to both the knife edge and stud.

The Edge III is pretty horrible for wearing down. From the way it looks I'd agree it's pretty far gone, like someone adjusted the height with string tension wearing everything down.

If you have the leftover budget, an original Edge is a drop-in replacement and will take a lot more abuse.

Thanks, I'm considering a replacement, though it will probably end up costing me more than I paid for the guitar! I am the third owner of this so it's had plenty of time to get worn out...

Anyway I definitely will not be buying another guitar with and Edge III...

If I want to replace with another Edge III they are not too expensive on ebay, but they all look as worn out as mine!

Buying a used Edge III is a rubbish idea. They're common on ebay because people want to get rid of 'em.

Yeah, I was checking just to see what was there. Thing is if I get something better it will cost more than I paid for the guitar...maybe time to block the trem...

I spent more on replacement parts than I did on my second guitar. Worth it.

Hmmm. If I am gonna go this route I'd want to upgrade the pickups, too. Thinking about it.

It doesn't look too bad. Try to use a fine file to smooth out the edges and do a proper setup. People often lay the blame the bridge for tuning instability but in most of the cases it is the overall setup which is the culprit. Let's face it, most people buying these cheap guitar don't know much on how this type of guitar works.

Thanks for the tip, I've read about this but wasn't sure if the trem was too far gone to try it.

Decided I didn't want to spend the money to upgrade this, it was just too worn out for my tastes and not just the trem.

I'd tried to sell this on ebay and CL for a while and got nothing but lowball offers, finally just took the neck off and sold the neck and loaded body as parts, sold already on ebay.

Coming soon, HNGD!!!!
