^^ + ^ You're meant to be trying to talk me out of this

What would I get for the higher gain tones? I was thinking super crunch box, but Isn't the angry charlie a crunchbox clone?

Or I could do it the other way round, have the higher gain one the teeny one and the lower gain one the bigger one. I might have more limited options that way, though.

Or just get one bigger pedal that does both tones. But I'm always a bit wary of single pedals which try to do too much, they normally end up doing one thing better than the other. Even if they don't, if I have to redial the thing I probably won't bother, I set and forget most of the time. So there's not much point in loads of tones being in there if I have to tweak the thing all the time to get them

I actually didn't know it was (havent used a crunch box in a long time) but looking it up, apparently people are claiming it's a 1 to 1 clone. Maybe just go for the M-Audio.

Personally, I went the "get the better lower gain pedal" because when I juice the front end of the Distortron (or switch it to HI mode and cut the subs to 1 or 2) I can get all the higher gain Marshall tones I want. The lower gain tones are the hardest things to get nice sounding IMO so that's my priority. There wasn't much the Charlie or the Marvel Drive had that the Zvex pedal couldn't get to with a bit of help. That's not true the other way around.

Basically what I'm saying is get the SL Drive.

Or you can try the Distortron. It's awesome too

LOL, thanks

I find even when juiced with two boosts that the hot plexi still is a bit low gain with low output single coils. and then i have nowhere to go because that's kind of the level of gain i'd use for highish gain rhythm tones i.e. i'd need to juice it even more for lead.

so more gain needed.

righto so new plan.

Yea I think that's the biggest reason I've slowed down so much. More time spent reading books and papers instead of browsing PGS and Prymaxe.

I've been reading textbooks and technical manuals. No time for fiction. Don't think I've read anything 100% for pleasure since last summer.

don't think that has enough. or at least a modern enough sound. (judging by my joyo clone) EDIT: but i don't need super high gain either since i have the hardwire metal distortion which has that covered. sort of hot-rodded marshall is what i want.

I don't read fiction or novels in general at all these days. I buy something I'm keen on from time to time like Suttree and The Hunger Games, but they just end up sitting on the shelf with a bookmark 40 pages in. I read so much shit on the net that I'm all 'read' out by the end of the day. Plus, I'm mad into guitars, movies, music and video games. Ain't nobody got time for anything else. And I'm starting to get into cooking as well and a little beer and whiskey tasting.

Really? I'd suggest trying out a real one just to see the difference. It's my high-gain pedal. I run it at 18V on the LP (more transparent) setting. The amount of gain mine has on tap is rather incredible, honestly. I set the gain to about 1 o'clock and sometimes boost it with my FD3's boost.

Also, the HP setting is supposed to add more mids and give it a British voicing.

XTS Atomic dude. Nothing much better for that kind of sound. It's pricey though, and probably even pricer over where you're at.

The OCD is too tubby sounding for what you want. It's definitely not a hot rod type sound, and TBH, I'm not a huge fan, especially because of how it reacts to anything place after it.
