I might keep my eye out for a used one. I doubt I'd be able to try one out before I buy and it would take the brunt of the price down a little in case it's not what I want.

Yeah- I currently own 3 Revs...all purchased via the Internet. The one place near me that sold them closed and went to an eBay store model...and now only occasionally stock Revs.

There's a $400 roundhouse on ebay, or there was a few hours ago.

Just so you know.

Whoops, I meant a flatroc, it's the second link. That's one of the cheapest Revs I've seen on ebay in a while. It's also a buy it now, so none of this sniping nonsense.

Shame it doesn't have any of the features I would want.

The Flatroc with the revtrons is cool, but it has the rosewood, sadly.

What are you looking for in a Rev?

I ask, because I REALLY keep looking- there's a similar but newer Flatroc with the RevTrons and a maple fretboard for $649+ shipping at Reverb.

And its Buckshot cousin for even less.

That buckshot for $600 is exactly what I'm looking for (Revtrons, maple neck) except I'm poor right now.

This is a good time to buy guitars, but a horrible time to sell them, as I've learned. One of my listings on CL keeps getting flagged down and I can't figure why, except maybe 'cuz my price is so low.

Sell blood! Sell man-juice! Sell an ovary (OK, you MIGHT have to split the profits on that one)!

I know very little about reverends. Would like to know more. What do this guitars offer that others don't? What music styles do they fit with? How do they compare in price to others?

Welcome to the thread!

One feature universal- and virtually unique- to all Reverends is the Bass contour knob. It shapes the tone of notes in the lower register similar to how your common tone knob affects the high end. That means you can make a humbucker-equipped Reverend sound amazingly twangy.

Other universal features include graphite nuts and locking tuners. Korina is the body wood on all current production models.

The current line is all made in South Korea, with final inspection and setup at company HQ in Detroit. New, they they range from @$700-1300, depending on model. The used USA models can still fetch prices over $1700 for some of the rarer models.

QC is as good as any other company I can think of. I'm currently the owner of 3 Revs, and the only issue on any of them is a knob on the oldest one- bought used on eBay- is a little mis-threaded on its post, so it low and off-center, meaning it rubs slightly against the body.

As for genre suitability, most Reverends are voiced for country, classic rock, jazz, pop, indie, punk, blues and hard rock, etc. The models with RevTron pickups work great for surf, big-band, rockabilly, psychobilly and similar genres. Models with the Chisel or Anvil RailHammer pickups are aimed at higher-gain genres and can handle all but the most extreme forms of metal. Reeves Gabrels and Sylosis are among the artists using RailHammer-equipped Reverends.

See, if Revs were like standard Gibsons selling used in that $700-1200 range, I'd have no interest in the company. They'd be just another ESP, making high-end guitars for the high-end crowd.

But what interests me about Revs aside from Revtrons and the bass contour, is the prices are down more in the Gibson Studio range, and sometimes cheaper. At that price, it's hard to think of any brand that really blows Reverend away.

Sort of like how the LTD 1000 line became a go-to guitar recommendation for a lot of people because of how cheap they got on the used market. Or the reason I want a Malden, if I can ever find one again for the super cheap prices.
