Searching for the Amplifier known as the 'Vortex Walkabout'

Hey all, I was noodling around in a pawnshop (and subsiquently my buddies guitar shop across the street) and while i was in there an elderly gentleman was searching for a battery powered mobile amp. Specifically, the Vortex Walkabout.

For native American flute amplification.

After the salesman tried to sell him something that was far too large and not necessary for his needs, He asked me if I knew of anything. I directed him to my buddies shop, and over we went.

After 3 phone calls and ~20 minutes of research, we found that

A) There is a website for this product, however, it doesn't connect.
B) It's quite popular with flute players
C) there are almost no pages discussing it, or pictures.

So, that's what I have to go on, and I figured I'd ask you guys if any of you knew of where one could be obtained, or if there was something similar offered on the market.

Here's a video to get an idea of what I'm looking for.

there is plenty of reviews and demo's for it online, but it doesn't seem to be sold anywhere anymore and you can't even find one on ebay. i am guessing the company isn't around anymore.

the system just appears to be a contact mic going to an effects unit and then a small battery powered amp.

i have bought cheaper clip on contact mics before around the 20 to 40 dollar range, and roland offers many different battery powered amps with the flange, chorus, reverb and delay that sounds kinda what the walkabout is using.

You're gonna have to scour the web to both find someone who owns one, and is willing to sell it, since they're not made anymore.

You can't always get what you want. Introduce him to Roland busking amps and brass instrument mikes.

Hi...

I recently became interested in playing the Native American Flute. I also like the gentleman in question you are trying to help, was looking for a small portable sound effects (reverb and delay) system to use with my flute.

My quest brought me to the one you are looking for - the Vortex Walkabout, and what is currently the only other one I could find that is in fact smaller than the Walkabout with the same ease of use and features - the Litek Mini FX sound system, sold by OregonFluteStore.com:

There are demos of this on youtube as well as at the Oregon Flute Store site.

If you want a pic of what the no longer produced Walkabout looks like here's a cached page:

[forbidden link]

and also a wonderful thread on the Walkabout actually being manufactured by Zoom and similar to their g1n model:

[forbidden link]

The reason I point out this thread is that there is a music technician on there who says you can make your own Walkabout using the g1n listing parts and prices and costing less than the original $300 price for the Walkabout.

If your friend is just looking for the lightest, thinnest easiest to use system for reverb/delay effects with his flute, get the one at OregonFluteStores.com by Litek.

Hope this helps.

^ Not sure if adbot/spam or whatever but that Litek thing actually looks legitimate. The product website is a bit, er, lacking and almost unprofessional, but they do list contact info, and it actually seems like a product worth looking at for this type of use.

I'm not an adbot or trying to spam.

Just what a well programmed adbot would say?
