Have I been picking wrong?

I've always held the pick between my thumb and the pad of my index finger since I started guitar, but I was trying different stuff earlier, and I started it with the knuckle of my index finger instead. Is the latter the "correct" way to pick? When I was picking like that, it was a lot more fluid, but also a lot slower.

The first picture is how I used to pick, and the second is how I'm trying to pick now.

I like it somewhere between both extremes.

I've never been comfortable using the pick between the pad and the thumb, but as MetalMullet says, whichever works for you. Indeed some guitarists like to use a three finger technique.

Ofcourse the "whatever works for you" applies to alot of things when it comes to guitar, but I think it's safe to say that the "Paul gilbert/guthrie govan"-way of holding your pick is the most efficient.

There's no right or wrong way, it's whatever feels good for you but most players handle the pick in a very similar way
