Electric Cello?

Ok, I've got a lot of crazy ideas, access to a fairly complete and unused wood shop, and a lack of understanding of what cannot be done.

It is also not 10 months until my girlfriend's Birthday.

She wants a Cello.

I figure I can buy a $1500 cello.....

Or....

I can build one.

Now here's the problem, I don't have a clue where to start.

Any ideas?

I think a guide on how to build an electric upright bass would be more common if you want to try Google. Just change the scale length.

Also, most cellists I know prefer geared tuners (like a normal guitar or bass would have) instead of the 1:1 tuners plus fine tuners on the bridge, just to let you know.

Thanks, that is very useful information.
