Got home the Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett and X/O by Elliott Smith the other day

And still got DC EP by John Frusciante to pick up at the delivery service.

So I've got a boatload of vinyls. But I don't have anything to play them on! Where should I start interms of deciding on a system for my vinyls?

Guys I have a problem and I'm a vinyl noob so please inform me. I recently purchased a tour edition vinyl from a Coheed and Cambria show. I just opened the vinyl and it seems very cheaply made. It is warped, and the disk one has a lip on the edge that makes hearing the first part of the first song on side B impossible. What do you guys think? I'll post a video so you can see.

The vinyl also skips at random points and is very annoying. None of my other vinyls do this. It sounds good otherwise.

View My Video

Ugh, I just discovered that the other with sides C and D has the lip on both sides! Should I email the merch management and hope for a response?

That depends on your budget mostly. But the most important thing I think is having a good table with a decent tone arm and cartridge because of you buy something cheap, your records will get ruined over time. DO NOT get a Crosley...

I have a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable which is like 450 bucks I think, and that thing is great. There's also some great upgrades you can add to it over time.
As far as amps/receivers and speakers or whatnot, I don't know too much. I just have some decent 90s gear I got for cheap. If you can't spend too much, I think used is the way to go.

Vinyls....

Thanks for the advice, I'm in Europe. Does that change things somewhat?

Just taken delivery of..

Interpol - El Pintor - Red
Sufjan Stevens - Come One Feel The Illinoise
Aphex Twin - Syro
The Antlers - Hospice.

Will upload picks later if wanted. Syro has some really cool packaging.

Next month i'll mainly be picking up Moose Blood - I'll Keep You In Mind From Time To Time on the /300 and /700 variant, and Pre oredering the Gone Girl soundtrack.

PS - Shall we all swap each others Dead Format lists? that could be fun.

Pro-Ject are actually an Austrian company. You'll find the Carbon no problem. I have a Carbon MSL as a secondary table, and it's very bloody good.

I'd consider moving the speakers off the back wall a bit.

The pic's at a tricky angle and the Wii's in the way, I assure you there's a good inch between them and the wall (even at the bottom where the wall comes out a bit), and definitely no interference with the turntable

By a bit, I mean about a foot

This may be my inner hifi nut speaking, but a room should be arranged around the speakers, even if it means you have absolutely no view of the television.

i'll keep it in mind thanks. though there's not really enough room to do much else at the moment, even if the tv was out of the equation. it's a weirdly shaped living room

You'll find that a bit of rear space will tighten the bass up and improve the soundstage. Bass frequencies reflect off the back wall and into the room, which causes boominess.

Another tip- toe them in towards the listening position slightly and do some critical listening. See if you notice any difference.
