Hi, I'm just starting to get into playing guitar, though I'm teaching myself and I'm really lost at what I should be learning. I know a couple of songs like Snuff by slipknot, Johnny Cash's version of hurt both of which I can play decently. I want to improve myself and eventually start playing metal. Can someone please point in the direct I need to go, like what I need to learn, what to practice and so on. Any advice would be appreciated thanks guys

Learn open chords.
Learn barre chords.
Learn the minor pentatonic scale in the key of E, A, G, and D.

That's all you need to know to rock!

Take a song like Master of Puppets and learn all the various parts and you'll be well on your way.
