Gibson also has an LP with a marble top. Weighs 57 lbs.

I blame you, Stig. You sparked that Gibson GAS. I'd probably grab that basic 2014 Explorer before any LP, though.

57 pounds?! I can feel the herniated disc already. Go big or go home I guess.

But yeah, I'm an @sshole like that

Yea! Like 1000kg for the non-Americans here. That's how it converts, I'm sure.

Man, they even put the auto-tuning tech on that model. Seems like you have to go Kelliher if you want to avoid it.

Also, that reminds me of the guy on SSO that build an explorer that weighed 16 pounds....

You could just buy an older Les Paul used that's actually good.

I just watched an interview with Bill where he said he got his silverburst LPC for like $800. Where the hell can I get that deal? I think Mastodon and Tool are driving up the price of silver.

I could also just buy an Ibanez RG Prestige. A shape and style I'm already familiar with. Has been my plan for awhile but still tying to decide between a six or eight.

I also saw that and was kinda thinking "What? **** you." I was looking for videos of Bill playing his LP sig.

thankfully I already have one heavy LP guitar in my life (7 string agile) so for now my LP gas has been contained. a few years ago I fell madly in love with silverburst and thankfully that has passed and I no longer gas for that finish. unless I stumbled upon a 5 string jazz bass in such a finish...

nice! never played any ESP or LTD 7s but I imagine id love them. you are definitely winning in this trade. how old is the ESP? and did you ever consider a tremel-no? they supposedly make trem ridden guitars much more enjoyable for guys like you and me. cant wait to see the new acquisition

speaking of new acquisitions, ive decided its time for a new guitar since its been 2 years since ive made any major music purchases. gonna snag me a white LTD snakebyte. im a huge metallica fan and im so at home on explorer shapes that its not even funny, so I feel like theres no better purchase for me. and if things go right, I hope to have a new amp by the year's end.

I'm over superstrats. I actually find them extremely uncomfortable. I need to wear them really high to play them and I don't like that.

I'm really not a fan of the LP burst that follows the body shape. I much prefer the teardrop shape burst. Those LPCs are well over 2 grand.

Oh, so like Kelliher's Goldburst sig.

Shame about the bridge rout on that one. I'm amazed no one stepped in and prevented that butchering.

Is it apparent I REALLY like Mastodon?

But also that's just the classic LP burst shape. Adam Jones' LPs have the same scheme. And just about every other burst LP out there.

With the kind of music I've been into lately I've decided to hold off on an ERG for a bit. Pretty set on getting an agile lp(the$400 ones). Not sure about an amp though.

Don't know if I should just get something cheap like a vypyr, or the thr10x, or possibly go tube and get a 6505+ combo(112). Or if I should go for a minihead(6505 or bugera) and a nice orange cab. It would be nice to finally have a nice tube amp for once and I'd probably be saving up for a axefx or pod pro when I get a 7/8string so having to sacrifice being able to play all hours of the day for a while wouldn't be too bad.

I did, but then I realized I would still have to deal with the royal pain in the ass that is restringing and setting up a guitar with a Floyd.

The 6505 combo is a respectable amp. The mini head version looks promising as well, but that won't be out until summer. Avoid Bugera at all costs.

Didn't like it much till the keys kicked in, then enjoyed it a bit. Nothing wrong with it but nothing I found interesting either. YMMV!

So, take this with a grain of salt, but...

Think of music as being melody, harmony and rhythm. Different styles of music put more or less emphasis on each portion. Personally I think that when you're playing heavier music you're basically trading melody for rhythm and harmony. So if you're writing music that is less melodic, it's because you're making space for more interesting rhythms(eg, Meshuggah) or more interesting harmony (eg, Eric Whitacre).

Currently your track has a few little interesting syncopations that's really all it brings to the table. Perhaps you could add an ambient track to fill out the harmony or mix up the rhythms a little more? Maybe even just come up with a lead melody to go over the main riff?

Hope that helps, thanks for taking the criticism in the spirit it was meant.
