Just had a scammer ring. He was claiming that he was from Telstra and that my pc had been compromised and was sending errors that were effecting the network. Then he tries to get me to do something on my pc, assuming it was Windows of course
So I am understandably suspicious and do nothing. I tell him I am ex-Telstra tech and ask for some simple, basic details. He couldn't even tell me what department he worked for. He just says "Telstra Technical."
"No, says I. I worked for Telstra, what actual department do you work for?"
He just repeats "Telstra Technical"
"That isn't the answer that a Telstra tech would give. Goodbye." And I hung up.
They used to say they were from Microsoft but that mustn't have been working so now they've switched to Telstra.
But the audacity of the ****er. Even after I told him I used to work for that company, he still tried to push on with it.
Oh, and he tried to give me an employee number that wasn't even in the right format. Like I wouldn't notice?

Right? It's a great movie in general, not just a comic book movie.

Ahhhh..messing with scammers is second only to messing with AI-robocallers for me.
There is a company that employs "Windows Peggy" to call me about my PC. Always a guy with an indo-Pak accent and an Anglo-Saxon name. They usually hang up when I tell them I have a Mac. One, however, was confused- I could quite clearly hear him asking others in the boiler room "He says he doesn't have a PC, he has a Mac. No, a Mac." This went on for several seconds before he hung up.
But like I said, messing with AI-robocallers is even more fun...

Why, yes, I am a lawyer- thanks for asking!
