^^^^^ George Fullerton and Leo Fender (G & L) can not be beat for the money . period. ^^^^
you can get a whole bunch of a American made G & L on your budget

For good American made guitars under $500, Peavey should be near the top of your list--you can find them used all over the place. Ones to keep an eye out for are the "Italian city" Leakesville-made ones--the Firenza, Torino, Milano series. In particular if you find a Peavey Firenza JX, Soapbar, or AX, snap it up because it will almost certainly be the best guitar you can buy in the price range.

Brian Moore guitars are mostly built in Korea, China (and, I believe, in Indonesia).
If you read that "about us" carefully, you'll catch that, but there's an "Our Company History" link on the current iGuitar website that will give you more information.
