You could try Hydrogen if you were open to writing drums outside of Cakewalk and then importing them.

I use http://drumsamples.org/ -- they're not pre-mixed, btw. So, you will have to add various VSTs to them to get the drums to sound good. And even then, something like this is MUCH better.

Free recording stuff will only disappoint. Spend some money and get something that will make you happy.

On piracy
...sure you can download stuff for free, but considering MOST IF NOT ALL companies which make plugins have code within the plugin that will create small artifacts in your audio if the authorization is not present. When you get caught you're also looking at losing a ton of money, but you will never work in the industry again without that haunting you. Its also principle of the matter because a shit ton of work is put into those plugins and the people that design them truly do deserve every penny. Don't pirate audio plugins or DAWS, its disgusting.

Biggest load of bullshit I've ever read (and I seem to be reading a lot of it at the moment). There is absolutely nothing disappointing about free stuff, how can there be? If it's free, you're probably going in with relatively low expectations, then you find some really good stuff and it's better than expected.
In drum software there isn't much, but it's there and it's not bad at all.

Sounds really good for being free and you can customize it a good bit. Haven't tried 4 yet, but I've been using 3 recently for my songs and sounds much better than FL studio drums i was using before.

EDIT: Guess 4 costs money, but 3 is free so I still recommend that.

Trust me, you should stop right now. Legitimate argument or not piracy discussion is not allowed and you're just going to get yourself banned.

Fine. deleted. both posts, but none advocated, explained, or gave links to such actions.

I'd appreciate if you'd remove my quotes as I've removed my posts.

Good day.

it's only free if your time is worth nothing.

I have found alot of cool free things SO I agree it can be done.

but I back away from the whole "you don't have to pay it's all out there free dude" not that you posted that attitude chatterbox272

I just think there is a place where I think paying is worth it.

in the heat of creation having it all working and all collection in a library it GOLD

for example Free Drums and libraries:-
the sound and quality you may get for free if you search & IF you know exactly what your after could be done

But Ezdrummer/Superior drummer give you solid options tp check AND, those midi collections are GOLD with the converter plugin yes you could convert and do the same and bring it in but for $25 a library,.. it would take you 1 maybe 2 days maybe more to pull together content from the internet into a single library.

Free instruments:- the presets that come with them is also a big reason to buy them polished well organised I'm sure you could get some good one for free BUT finding testing is also takes time. but you can do it

Free Effects:- well OK you test if your happy COOL I can not disagree .
but I've been doing alot of EQ plugin testing lately and Fabfilter ProQ is an Excellent bit of kit but for the money ? dmgaudio EQuility is better value and Waves H-eq is good too,

but I tried afew VST's in sonar and well many rough edges I found in the free EQ plugins I'm sort of glad my AAX limitation limited my search range, I could have been there for DAYS checking all the free options only to go back to Paid EQ plugin. ?

@mjones1992 I completely disagree with your opinion, I best NOT post.

Oh I agree completely (and when I get myself some damn money I'll be buying a fair few plugins). But he said that free plugins will only disappoint, i.e. free plugins are no good. For someone who's starting out (because no pro engineer is asking for free drum software) they won't notice the subtleties between most free stuff and the high end stuff. Sure with the drum software they may go "hey I wish this Drummix Beta was more flexible" but that's the limitations of free stuff. It doesn't mean that Drummix Beta is crap because it's free, it means that it has limitations that will be bareable while you're doing it for fun but will need to be sorted out before you try to do anything serious.

Toontrack are giving away a free version EZDrummer for a month: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/foru...d.php?t=1600206

Whilst not my favourite Drum Kit VST, (that'd be Slate or Superior depending on what I'm after) but it's still a solid release, especially for free.
