Just sold my guitar and got my tax return

First off, if I need to be moved to the guitar forum, I understand. GG&A has been "my" thread, so I wanted to post it here. I was able to sell my Strat on ebay for $600 bucks, and I got a $400 return. I'm pretty sure I'll get a Engl E530 to run into my amp. Should be able to find one relatively cheap used at some. After that, I need a new guitar since the Strat was my only one. All that really leaves me with for gear at the moment is a Fender Champ 25SE, a dan'o chorus, a BBE AM-64, a dan'o EQ, and a digidelay.

I'd like to keep it under $300, which would give me the ability to upgrade pickups, need be. I'm not too informed on tonewoods, so I'd like some help on that. However, my Strat was basswood and had a great unplugged sound. I want something with a thin, fast neck. And my biggest concerns are that it's hardtail, and either HSH or HSS. I would prefer HSS, but it's not too important over HSH. I NEED single coils for cleans and that single coil bite with distortion. This has led me to the Ibanez RG351DX. It's basswood, HSH, hardtail, has a Wizard3 neck, and even looks awesome too.

I'm playing with some decent cash for once, so I'm open to opinions for everything. Pedals, amps, preamps, and obviously guitar.

EDIT: Oh wow, forgot to put what I'm going for. I play primarily punk and hardcore music. Anything from Green Day to Silverstein to From First to Last to BFMV

i landed a RG 1550 prestige for about $500 from guitar center's used site (i had a lot of problems with it, but sometimes you get screwed. i only lost $20 but still pissed me off).

if your considering such i would go to your store and have your salesman call them, and question everything. i was questioning for at least 15 minutes. the replacement was much nicer and it a good guitar of supreme quality (as of all prestige ibbys.) i have a 3550 and 2570 as well. i needed one to droptune. all of which have a SC in the middle.

I'm not saying they do. However I just much prefer the clean sound of a single coil. I've tried many humbuckers clean, and it's never been as good as a nice single coil clean to my ears. I also love the way they "bite" in high-distortion sounds.

don't 'settle' as far as the guitar. i would seriously spend a tad more on a guitar if you won't hat the opportunity to regenerate money. you can find some prestige for $450, infinitely better than the ibanez you listed.

Upgrade the volume and tone controls to DPDTs and use that to wire each of the humbuckers for series and parallel operation.

Its definitely no single coil, but it would sound s little brighter than if you did a coil split.
