I also wouldn't mind getting into american indie rock like the rapture/ the pistolas but i dont really know where to start, so if anyone could recommend me some american indie stuff as well

Bastard Sunshine

New Indie Rock band from Canada, just released a 5 song EP.

Sort of reminiscent of qotsa, artic monkeys, deus at times... also pretty proggy at times.

My friend turned me onto Device. it's the disturbed frontman's new project. he goes for a kind of industrial vibe but i'm not the best with genres... what do you guys think? there's the song vilify which is the big single and then the album just dropped today. thoughts?

Normally I'm more into metal, but I recently heard of a pretty cool J-rock band (Girls Dead Monster) that sparked an interest in finding some good rock music, so I thought I'd come here and ask for a few suggestions.

I don't really care what country it comes out of, by the way, it doesn't need to be specifically J-rock. Just figured I should mention that for good measure.

I'm not too picky about general classification/sub-genre, either (hard rock, blues rock, whatever), so feel free to throw pretty much anything at me. I haven't really kept with new rock music for about a decade. I can go for anything from Green Day and The Offspring to Slipknot or Rob Zombie.

Thanks guys.

Pissed Jeans' album is good loud fun. Kinda Melvins-sounding. California X's self-titled album is also rad. Also loud, but a little more melodious in the guitars.

...Like Clockwork is obviously a good album, but I doubt you haven't heard that yet.

The only one I can really recommend that just goes under rock is Hrvrd's From The Bird's Cage. It's been growing on me like crazy the last few weeks.

Oh and I guess This Town Needs Gun's 13.0.0.0.0 would fit too, it's really great. I'm really behind on new stuff this year.

Can anybody recommend me some new stuff

Some of my biggest influences:
-Tool/APC (Their music takes you on a journey, makes you want to scratch your chin and think when you listen to it)
-NIN (A raw display of emotion but not in an overdone kind of way but beautiful at times too. A very "not standard" approach to music)
-Alice In Chains (Really down, hard hitting stuff, awesome harmonies)
-Indukti (if you haven't heard of these guys and you like Tool, definitely check these guys out)

I basically like stuff that has a deep, dark sound, not really metal but rock that's got balls to it. Kind of ethereal, experimental, flowing, etc. The best way I can put it is: you can picture the music being the soundtrack to something, almost has a visual aspect to it when you hear it.

New as in newly released or stuff you didn't mention?

For newish stuff Deftones' Koi No Yokan fits, as does Deafhaven's Sunbather if you don't mind them more being on more of a metal side with some harsher vocals. Also, I think you'd probably love Palms' new self-titled that just came out. It's very much a sort of ethereal journey from Deftones frontman Chino Moreno and the guys from ISIS who is definitely another band you'd probably like based on what you said.

Other stuff in general:
Soundgarden's Superunknown
Biffy Clyro's Blackened Sky
Radiohead - Kid A
Explosions In The Sky - The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place (this is instrumental)
Moving Mountains - Waves
Sigur Ros - (Untitled)

Really anything Chino Moreno has done is good and fits with what you want. You also would likely like Opeth and Porcupine Tree, though I'm not personally big on either.

Either new relative to now or what I haven't heard already in general. Preferably more modern bands since I can still see them live or get into new albums.

I checked out Palms, that sh#t is awesome. I always liked Isis minus the cookie monster vocals, Chino does a great job at keeping it melodic and still meaningful. I'll definitely get that album.

New pop Evil record is pretty legit.

New Killswitch isn't terrible.

Black Veil Brides latest is actually listen-to-able.

Lot good stuff out there.

I have a hard time finding new music. I like a little heavier sound but I don't like the lyrics that usually accompany it.

I like bands like Linkin Park (the first 2 albums, anyway) and Halestorm, Black Sabbath and AC/DC, and oddly enough I find some of Disturbed's albums appealing.

Anyone know of anything out there?

Happy days,
I've just discovered this new band Army Of One, from the UK, after a friend of mine who lives there suggested I check them out.
(amazingly unique web address btw!!!!!!!) almost like some secret code.

www.ΔΟΙ.com
I've found that using www.army-of-one.com also works.

From what I've seen they only have one single and video out so far as they are very very new, but it ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reminds me of a Soundgarden, Tool, Stone Temple Pilots vibe but with a little something original. Whatever, I love it.

What do you think?
