I got the album, first Machine Album I've heard all the way through and it's pretty ****ing kickass.
I didn't get the limited edition one with bonus tracks and DVD though... Anyone else think Rob kind of sounds like Eddie Vedder at the beginning of Darkness Within?

It's not supposed to sound like The Blackening man. IMO, did Machine Head make an album that clearly tops The Blackening? No. What they DID do was release a VERY good album that can certainly compete with The Blackening all the while utilizing a newer version of the ever-refining style of Machine Head. Imo it's around Blackening caliber to my ears so far but definitely has a totally different vibe/atmosphere to the album which to me is impressive. It's impressive to me that they made such an album that can compete with their last release but using a VERY different approach. That gets my respect. Not that any of that matters.

O_o Well no shit, Sherlock. Why would I want to hear a copy of The Blackening if I already have the original? o.o What you're saying is like saying you met an Indian guy named Hugh at work and you were disappointed with him because he wasn't like Hugh Jackman. |

I have now listen to Unto the Locusts.
Brilliant album! Top quality from beggining to end. A lot of energy, passion and heavy-ness. It has more range than the Blackening, mainly vocally. I cant fault a single song, but highlights were the breakdown at the end of Pearls Before the Swine, the classical intro in This is the End, the breakdown with the wah solo in I Am Hell, and also Who We Are. I don't get all the dislike for Who We Are, I thought it was the best song on the album from my first listen. It was an awesome, energy anthem. Darkness Within really surprised me. I had heard it was different, and surprising, so I was prepared for a ballady song, maybe with classical guitar, but it wasnt that. But I love the song.

Machine Head will always be my favorite band of all time, hands down. I love the new album. I think they spoiled everyone with the blackening because when we all heard that album we all said, "there is no way they will top that album." but as musicians we don't look at it that way. This album gets every ounce of respect from me because of every single element that was used to make it. Phil's leads are 10x better than before, Robb's clean vocals are better than before. The blackening was the pissed of side of machine head while unto the locust was the musical side of machine head. Robb shows how much he has matured as a songwriter and musician on this album and that is so respectful in my opinion.

Absolutely love the new album. First listen to I am hell gave me goosebumbs.
It's easily as good as the Blackening, it's just a totally different album. If I wanted solid balls to the wall crazyness I'd listen to the Blackening, if I wanted something a little more refined, I'd listen to UTL. TTAOE is still my favourite though >_>

Just came back from Bloodstock, and despite the amazing line-up, and all the hate directed towards them originally, Machine Head blew everyone away, they were brilliant.
Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself, the whole set was pro shot and uploaded onto youtube:

Their new live album is damn good. Probably my favourite living band, Unto the Locust is the metal album of 2011. I have a lotta love for that band.

It's awesome dude. I've listened to it at least 2-3 times a day for the past few days. And I generally hate live albums.

Unto the Locust was really good, but I think Machine Head really set the bar too high for themselves with The Blackening. The live album was a pleasant surprise. I have seen MH twice and the album actually attempts to capture the energy behind the performance. If you're into deals here is Machine Head's un-arguable opus The Blackening on sale through Itunes by Roadrunner Canada:

So are we all ignore the tragedy of Adam Duce leaving?
This kills all hopes for an album with the same standards as the Blackening and Unto the Locust set. I fear...a decline. I wonder what his reasons were. Leaving one of the biggest metal bands atm is a big decision. |
