Upto How do you get this sound?

That snare sound, the ripply sound, I dont know how to explain it, but i've been wondering how's that done?! Some special effect? detuning the drumset? How would I go finding a sample may be?

EDIT: sorry embedding didn't play from where I wanted it to play
it's at 0:40

What exactly do you mean?
The snare drum sounds like a normal snare drum ringing out to me.
Superior drummer has tons of samples that will sort you out for that.

edit: See your edit now.. yeah that's just a studio effect they slapped on the end to distort and make it a bit worbly (yes, I made that up now).

see that's the thing, I hear a very distinctive tuning out. I think it's like either detuning the snare, or ma ybe having a finger slide on the head or something. Any ideas?!

That snare is soaked in reverb, that plus a combination of the overtones ringing out are what you're hearing. At least that's what it sounds like to me

lol I have now... It's still the same thing, only difference is it's triggering a sample. Not sure what, though, as it reminds me of a disc scratch on vinyl. Maybe it's triggering an instrumental note that's been modulated?

yeah I've actually thought of slowdown/stretching towards the end. But what frustrates me is that the ring/warble/whatever sounds very natural, like as if it's coming from the drum//drumhead not modulation or any other piece of gear

I agree. I can actually hear the snare make/lose contact with the bottom head, almost as if somebody hit the snare release latch... But it still kinda sounds like somebody downtuned it in realtime.

Sounds like a very low volume sample of the kind of phase shifted stuff you hear on "song remains the same" movie.

Of course, buckethead might have made that sound on the guitar.

Analogue delays make a sound much like that when you turn the delay speed down.
