Can I upload tracks to garageband and edit them?

I am new to recording. I just bought an M-Audio fast track with a shure mic. I would like to do a couple of things. 1. i would like to be able to practice using backing tracks while i solo, and then record my vocals. I dont know if this is possible. 2. Can i upload a track from itunes then edit it? for example if i upload stormy monday by allman brothers can i cut the vocals and duanes guitar and add my vocals and guitar? I am very new to this programming/software. thanks and appreciated.

you should be able to add the song to your garage band session, but you wont be able to take out any parts. you will just have to play over the track.

however, there are websites you can find backing tracks that people have recorded with parts missing. i would google something like "stormy monday backing track" and see if you can find something.
