Are they a big band? I'd never really heard them mentioned apart from her.

they're getting bigger as far as punk bands go. their next album is coming out on Fat Wreck, which is one of the bigger punk labels if you're not up to snuff on that kind of music.

i wouldn't say they're huge, but they've got an increasingly steady following over the years since i started listening to them. they don't always pull in the whole crowd when they're opening for bigger bands like the Adolescents show i went to recently, but they've got a decent sized group of loyal fans who always come up to the front and wig the **** out during the entire set.

they do quite a bit of touring, too. they'd probably do more, but they all still have jobs and the singer has a kid.

edit: half the band is from NJ, so i get to see them pretty often, too. one of the few reasons i'm actually proud of this garbage state.

so this is only my second tattoo and the first one i've had with anything other than just black, but i'm a little concerned.

guy told me the black that had gotten onto some of the red would flake out as it healed, but it's been over two weeks now and the black is still there. just as much as it was when he finished. it's still at that itchy/peely/wrinkly stage so maybe it's fine, but it's worrying me a little. not gonna be happy if it turns out he didn't completely clean the black ink out of the needle and i'm stuck with shitty black lines on the red parts of my tattoo.

go into the shop and show him - artists usually will give you free touch-ups even if they didn't mess anything up just to freshen up the look, and if he ****ed it up then he definitely needs to offer you a touch-up. try not to be timid about it - a good artist will care about their reputation

I'm pretty excited. In the next few months I'm gonna be getting a lighthouse tattoo done on my shoulder to cover up some old self harm marks. Then on my left forearm I'm getting a watercolor bird done

Yeah I'm pretty pumped about that one for sure. I already have a calvin and hobbes one covering some marks up on the same arm and I love it to death. I'm gonna have a cracked lighthouse with an octopus tentacle attacking it as well as having some vultures circling around and at the base I'm gonna have 3 black roses.

Tatting scars is definitely a great way to touch up old scars. Seen a few that work really well.

I know a lot of pornstars that would definitely do well with having tattoos around the cuts of incisions, whether to accent or hide.

thanks, yo.

i'm not even sure what stage of healing i'm at right now, actually. it's been so long since my first one that i forgot what it was like. right now it's kind of rough and wrinkled so i guess it may not have actually peeled.

the guy who did it was really cool, though, so i think he'd help me out if something did get messed up. way nicer than the dick who did the first one. maybe i'll pay him a visit next weekend just to make sure. wanna run a few design ideas by him, too. (as long as he didn't mess up i'd definitely go back to him)

cool beans on the lighthouse tat idea.

i've been mulling over something like this one for a local band i love that kind of fell off the map. i think one of them went to school or something so they've been on an unannounced hiatus i guess, but they were one of the tightest bands i'd ever seen live and the first band i was ever able to see at a show sober and go home feeling great.

as a card-carrying member of the tattooed lighthouse club, i approve of this design. it's similar to mine.

not sure if you're into color or not but nothing looks cooler than a lighthouse in a storm so long as your artist is good enough with their shading.

i need more color on me. second tat has just a little tiny bit of red blood spatter things at the end of a solid black dagger.

i just don't know what to get, though.

oh, there's a question for you guys/gals: how do i go about getting an artist to do a commission or whatever to draw me something up? is it as simple as that? just ask? describe what i want? maybe show them a rough sketch?

i probably won't be able to afford anything too fancy immediately, but i'd like to start planning it out. maybe find the right artist for it, too.

that lighthouse or this pulp illustration for a short story are probably what i'm getting done next.

i'll try and scan the pulp thing later, but this is the style of some of the guy's work:

Lee Brown Coye. did a lot of stuff for Weird Tales and Lovecraft stuff.

there's another really cool piece in this art book i got, but i'd like to read the story it's from before i get it permanently put on my arm.

some of Mike Diana's work is something else i've thought about, too. probably one of the ones with less penises.
