Bla-bla-bla Ngaed

In the past two weeks I received a bunch of new gear and I'm pretty psyched about it. I got a new guitar, and a rack setup of a pre-amp, effects block and a power-amp. The only problem is that I don't really have a speaker cab right now so I can't really use it yet I'll be getting one on thursday, though.

Guitar first:
ESP Horizon FR-II w/Duncans

Neck-Through Construction
Maple neck
Mahogany wings
Quilted Maple top
Ebony 24-fret fretboard
25.4" scale
Seymour Duncan JB and '59 pickups
Original Floyd Rose
Coil-Split
See Thru Black Cherry

Rack:
Soldano SP-77 Series II Pre-Amp
TC Electronics G-Major 2
Marshall 9100 Power-Amp

Nice haul, but you are going to need a review or some clips or this is going to get closed.

Not trying to rain on your parade, just letting you know.

Well, I can review the guitar as I've used it through Amplitube since I got it.

I bought it after I returned 2 Ibanez S5470Fs that both had sustain issues, so I searched long and hard before I found this one. I already own an Ibanez RG1570 but wanted something a bit more colorful and different.

The ESP feels brilliant. I play glam metal so a fast neck and good fret access is important to me, and this guitar does not disappoint in the least. It's a bit chunkier and heavier than the basswood RG and the S, but it doesn't really impact its speed. Compared to the S, this one has sustain coming out the wazoo. I was perfectly happy with my RG's sustain, but this holds a note for a very long time. The neck-through design obviously helps here, and the lack of a normal neck joint makes upper fret access even easier. All in all, the construction feels flawless and very solid. Also, it looks gorgeous.

The sound(through amplitube) is also awesome. The Duncans are really punchy and perfect for my style, they just sing. I've never owned a guitar with coil-split before and didn't use the middle pickup on my RG, but that was probably more because the pickups were shit. I think I'll be using this for some funky shit from time to time as my bass player loves that.

Only thing I need to do now is install straplocks so I don't break it on my first gig. Also maybe block the trem to dive-only so I can drop D from time to time.

So which one plays better the 1570 or the ESP? I have a 1570 and have always wanted a Horizon so a direct comparison would be awesome.

The Horizon, no doubt. I was a bit wary about the thicker neck, but it just plays great. Just as good, if not better, than the RG. Better sounding pickups, higher quality wood, all-around more solid construction, better fret access. Only downside I can think of, apart from the price, is that it's a little bit heavier. Get one!

I have an LTD Viper 400 with the thin U neck and it's alright, not my favorite. Hopefully it's a bit thinner than that. I love thin necks. I also have an early 2000's LTD M-302 that has a neck that is about as thin as my 1570, I have never felt an LTD neck that was as awesome as this one. Sadly it sits in the case because I can't stop playing the 1570!

Anyway, eventually I think I will get one. Thanks for the comparison.
