And back on topic... My girlfriend is awesome and got me a katana for Christmas. Its a Hanwei Practical Plus Elite. I seriously need to learn how to use this beauty.

How much could a newer (bought probably around 2010 or so) Walther PPK/s go for these days?

You could probably squeeze $500 out of it. At least, that's what they tend to be for good condition used around here.

Nice. That could get me most of what I need for a new(er) Glock 19.

Good choice! Both in getting rid of a .380 brick and getting a G19. I really enjoyed my 19.

The prices of new Gen 3 Glocks have come down in prices, thanks to the Gen 4s. I need a G17.

I suppose I could get the 31 instead, and use up the box of 357 sig that I've got from when I thought I was gonna get a 33. Or I could just get the 33.

I could just get rid of the box of ammo, but that's silly.

They're good first guns. Easy recoil, cheap ammo, little concern over reliability.

And for reliability, accuracy, etc., you prefer ... ?

There are tons of good options, but for me, I prefer Glock all the way around. I've got at least 10k rounds between three Glocks. Not one malfunction, and the 21 is just a tack-driver. They just work well for me, and I've got more trigger time behind them than anything else.

I'm still a noob with semi-autos, 9mm, 10mm, .40, etc. Shot Silhouette, mostly. An uncle has a Sig Sauer P226 (.357), so sweet.

357 Sig in an exceptional semi-auto round, highly recommended!

I still prefer .45, but .357 Sig in a compact has become my go-to for concealed carry. I'm still a fan of .40 for CC, but the Sig round is simply...better.

Recoil with the SIG round is usually really snappy from what I remember hearing, and ammo is hard to find. I'd love to have one though.

The selling point for me for 357 is from small guns like the 33. Compared to a J-frame, you get MASSIVE velocity gains over the magnum. Underwood's 125gr Gold Dot load is getting 1450-1480fps from a Glock 33!! The magnum just can't touch that in a gun that small and light. I trust 9mm for self defense, but that amount of horsepower in a gun that fits in the pocket really makes a case for itself as a hiking gun around here where tweakers and coyotes are the biggest concern.

I've also been doing a lot of research on .45 Super... One user on another forum has posted his velocities from a ported 5" barrel using 800X. He could push a 185gr bullet over 1500fps. 230gr bullets are around 1300, and can even get a 300gr bullet to 1100ish fps. Obviously I'm not just going to go out with his max loads without working up to it, but it inspires confidence in the cartridge. The nice thing is that all I need for my 21 is a a longer barrel with better chamber support ($160) and a heavier recoil spring ($30). I've already got .45 ACP dies and bullets. Just need the brass.

I handload, so ammo availability wouldn't be TOO much of an issue. Plus, the Glocks (and most 357's in general) can use conversion barrels for .40 and 9mm, so if nothing else, I could load up some light, hot .40. Snappiness isn't bad in the 31, but the 33 does have a bit of snap. Still better than the 27 or a J-frame, though.

Update on my finger: it can now straighten. Doctor said that would be the hard part. But I still can't make a fist. I'm about 80% there on that, so... there's just a 5th of effort left. I think that's how it works.

I split it open again today hitting it on a pan at work and am on Vicodin so excuse bad typing and grammar and stuff.

Good to hear man. The healing, not the splitting open.

Need to acquire some kind of Glock so I don't have to rely on relatives to practice.
