power tube buying and questions

What do tube companies do to to the tubes that they sell "for you model amp"? Is there a difference between a matched quad of tubes i have sitting on a shelf that were bought for no particualr amp and a set i ordered for specifically for a dual rec of the same brand?

I have a matched quad of jj el34l's and wanted to try them in my dual rec, but what im gathering from reading is that i need a specific set for it, is this true or can i put what I have in it without blowing it up?

Those are a Sovtek more or less. They're bs.
Good choice on the el34l's too. They're a good thing, more bass without sacrificing the midrange crunch of an el34. Ballsy tubes.

It's a head, no? Try a JJ ecc803 in V1.

yeah head, 3 channel one. I see you recommend that tube alot, im gonna order one.

Right now I have a jan5751 in V1, jj83s in v2 and 3, mesa 12ax7 in v4 and the lps in v5. Ive tried many different combos with all those tubes along with penta 12ax7 and tung 12ax7's and this was the best so far although not good enough, this thing is so sloppy loose and fizzy im not sure if tubes are going to make it how i want it to be.

In what way do you think your tone is lacking? Once you try your new tubes post back here if you still aren't happy. Generally speaking that cab is a good choice but it depends on what you are trying to acheive.

Im looking for that mesa throaty type growl. My biggest issue thus far is the lack of tightness, the palm mutes are loose and fizzy. I have the gain pretty low around 12-1:00, presense off and treble around 11-12:00 and like i said with those svetlana's the bass is on 0. I have a hardwire cm-2 up front and it definately helps, without it this thing is pretty much unusable.

This is all on channel 2 with solid state and bold settings , channel 3 is down right awful.

Cath your right the JJ803 sounds MUCH better then the tungsol dougstubes reccomended in V1.

The 34L's were ok in it, they were tighter then the 6L6's but didnt quite have that "kick in the chest" feel the 6's did. So then i swapped the sovtek lps in V5 for the mesa 12ax7-a and that did improve the tightness a little more, gave it some more beef and also opened up the clean channel quite a bit.

Its better but I got a feeling im going to be tweaking this thing for a long time to come...
