Trying to do anything CPU intensive with Abelton on my laptop is horrible but it's not so bad on a similarly specced Mac, they do have their uses.

Then, the problem is the processor. I bet the processor on your "comparable Mac" was better. Even if it was just a tiny bit better, that might be enough.
Edit: It'd really be nice if there was a script that allowed you to NEVER see people you blocked or put on your ignore anywhere on UG. Seriously, that'd just be awesome... As if their posts/comments just didn't even show up. That'd be wonderful.

Macs work better for CPU intense tasks because of the way the system handles errors.
Windows: Can't do any other work, bub, your TGUI is clogging up the CCRTP. Do you wanna fix it? Well, you need to fix the FD%43 first, because it's directly related to the BMU cache files on the HDDR.dll on the #@%#@#%$#&%$... Mac: This is broken. Fix? k. Apart from that, you'll get a ridiculously better bang for your buck if you go with a PC.

^ This is kinda what I figured. Except everything seems to be "CPU intensive" to my PC...I can't fucking browse the web without it being a whole deal. But the cost...blech

What sort of things are you planning to use it for? For just the internet a new PC is more than enough, and obviously for games a PC is preferable. For music and film processing then a Mac may be better and for running scientific simulations I believe Linux is best.
I don't think a Mac will have a particularly longer shelf life than a PC for keeping up with the internet as websites get more and more complex. |

Most PCs you buy at Walmart or Best Buy or whatever have shit CPUs. The computer stores try to fool people into thinking they need to spend like $1500 to get a good computer. If you build a PC with a good CPU, good GPU, 16GB RAM, etc.; then it'll run like a breeze. Also, both Macs and PCs get clogged up with directories that go nowhere (a result of uninstalling things sometimes), temporary internet files, registry errors, etc. I use a free program called CCleaner to fix all of those issues, and I use a program called Revo Uninstall to uninstall things because it searches for any hidden files associated with programs I'm uninstalling. Combined with an Anti-Virus that doesn't use a lot of CPU cycles, your PC should run beautifully (provided you're not like trying to record 4 instruments at once, lol). Btw, if you get Windows 8, you're gonna have to uninstall a bunch of stuff, because there's SO MANY programs that come with it and use up tons of CPU cycles. Windows 8 is abysmal right out of the box. It's designed to essentially act like a Tablet OS, which is a problem when it's on a laptop or desktop...

i'm probably gonna get a macbook soon, need a new computer real bad. haven't been able to finish my next album just cause it's so fucking frustrating to have to make 95% of the tracks on my songs disabled just to record any new track or add anything anywhere... my computer just can't handle shit whatsoever.
it also crashes very often when i try to start it so if i start/restart my computer it will take around 5 tries before it turns on properly and everything works... which means if i wanna turn off computer to hook up my keyboard to it and record some midi tracks it takes me 20 or 30 minutes of just turning my computer on and off before the damn thing does anything... shit's ridiculous

Thats terrible man.... I would surely try to back up stuff on dropbox in case the worst of the worst happens.
rgedit: well for the most part I ditched windows a long time ago and just dual booted with linux. I haven't had any trouble since... but as far as video and audio editing goes mac is excellent... even though they are worse than windows when it comes to money whoring.

So I was having some whiskey to take the edge off...and I'm way more buzzed than I expected to get. So who here plays warhammer and wants to take about the new high elves? Wasn't there a user named vermintide or something? He had Skaven as his avatar...
Anyways, I'm trying to paint much better, but it's really hard to get results like this: ![]()

I was once part of Civilization IV mod team that tried to make a Warhammer mod. Problem was, we tried to include all of the tribes/nations/races, so we literally had an impossible task ahead of us. We didn't finish before Civilization V came out. ![]()
