Stained/candy coat newspaper guitar?

Well I've seen this idea of covering a guitar with newspaper going around UG, and I was wondering if [and how] I could stain newspaper with a reddish/cherry color and then put it on my guitar.

If this was even possible, I was wondering if I should...
stain the paper before applying it to the guitar [but I might end up w/ and uneven coat]
stain the paper after its on the guitar before applying a clear coat/gloss
or my dumbest idea of all... mixing the stain with mod podge and applying that over the top of the newspaper once it's on the guitar

I also really like some candy coat ideas some guys posted. Anyone willing to explain a little more on that idea?

I know this is gonna sound like a pretty dumb idea to a lot of you but I was just curious.

You might just apply and clear coat the newspaper and go from there; set up a solid foundation first. These might help give you some idea on how to move forward :
