A bunch of stuff that I like and would maybe consider adding right up there. Some that I wouldn't though.

I'm thinking about adding '09 + '10 stuff now since, uh, I never did. Suggestions? And yeah, I'll probably shoot down Merriweather Post Pavilion.

God bless you.

I think we should do like a 2000s to present thing. Since there's been more time for reflection on the albums from that time.

cluster**** of popularly well regarded albums some of which may be of interest

note: i would only call a couple of these qualified of essential but they are some that people will probably bring up, and maybe should be discussed. All are pretty well known albums.

Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix was pretty huge and caused a lot of "crossover" interest. Very good pop album anyway that's 'aged' well (if 3 years counts as aged)

Beach House - Teen Dream
The Antlers - Hospice
Titus Andronicus - The Monitor
Tokyo Police Club - Champ
Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
The National - High Violet
Jonsi - Go
Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca
Mos Def - The Ecstatic
maybe Together Through Life? I really don't know what most people think of it but I think it's good.
Camera Obscura - My Maudlin Career (very consistent, maybe not overwhelming enough to really count)
Japandroids - Post Nothing
Yo La Tengo - Popular Songs
Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle
Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me
The Harlem Shakes - Technicolor Health
Sleepy Sun - Fever
Sufjan Stevens - The Age Of Adz
Dangermouse & Sparklehorse - Dark Night of the Soul
The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt
maybe the radio dept. or menomena or I speak because I can (the maybe probably means I don't think they should actually make it)
Maybe the 59 sound? I think it was 2007 or 8 though

I guess it might not count as essential since it doesn't have much attention or popular influence but Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson self titled is one of the very best I've heard in the past few years so I'll throw it out there too.

Also still think Heartbreaker (or love is hell, jcn, or cold roses) would belong on the original list

Why isn't Radio City by Big Star on the list? To me that will always be the classic Big Star album, not No 1 Record. Also, no T-Rex? You'd think either The Slider or Electric Warrior would have earned a spot. And if you guys are doing '09-'10 music too I'm going to throw in my vote for the Girls debut.

Also, would you guys consider adding a color/category for "pseudo classics"? I don't know what else to call them, but things like American Water by Silver Jews or Elliott Smith's Either/Or definitely deserve a spot on a recommendation list somewhere, even if they're not as revered as things like Loveless or Mellow Gold.

Edit: I also just noticed that Iggy Pop's Lust for Life isn't on there so I just wanted to throw that out there

i thought no. 1 record was more classic than radio city but i never liked big star. electric warrior should def be on there, surprised if it isn't. i wouldn't complain if girls' debut had a place. i dig silver jews but i don't think they have a classic. i hate elliot smith but either/or is definitely listworthy, it's not a pseudo-classic it's the real thing no matter how much it sucks. mellow gold isn't really revered, it's popular but everybody knows beckbro has done much better. lust for life could be on there but if the idiot is present that's probably good enough, cuz it's more 'influential' by miles.

not like anyone cares about this list / is gonna change it, though.

edit: the idiot is not on the list. that should be fixed.

I was going to suggest updating the list on the front page for the last 4/5 years, but I can only think of Hospice and James Blake to add. Maybe some Fleetfoxes since everyone was all over that a couple of years back. Beyond that there were a whole bunch of albums I liked and others liked, but none we were all drooling over and especially not essential ones. At least James Blake gives the impression artists aren't all just ripping off '60s and '80s stuff.

Why aren't there any tabs or chords for songs by Clarensau? Their acoustic stuff is so amazing! Very underrated!
