Peavey 6505+ problem
I see a Peavey 6505+ on CraigsList for $150 because it's broken. The description says:
This is a Peavey 6505 +112 combo amp that is not working. I was playing the amp and I heard a pop sound and it has not been working since then which was about two weeks ago. I do not know anything about amps so im not sure what the problem is. One of the tubes in the back is yellowish/white so that could have something to do with it. I just purchased a new amp and no longer need this amp so hopefully it will go to somebody who knows how to fix these. It is in like new condition cosmetically. If you have any questions or want to check it out feel free to give me a text or call. Thanks Could that just be the tube went bad? If it's simple like that, it seems like a great buy. However I don't know much about amps...

Buy that shit. For $150, any money it takes to fix it will probably still cost way less than buying a 6505+.

its the combo. you can find those for $300-350 around here on CL. i would just get a working one if you aren't confident to fix it yourself. i have never needed to bring anything to a tech, but they aren't cheap. most cases you probably pay $50 just to get a tech to look at it. you live somewhere near me. i say the ad in my search. there is one for $350 that looks nice, but it still has original tubes which would probably want swapped.

Must be nice. Finding a 6505 anything up here will run you $500-600 at least.

If you can get it for 75 it might be worth it.
From te description of the tube it almost sounds like it cracked.

The odds are very good that it's just a tube. If it was me I'd take a punt on it for that money - and I'm not a gambler. It's your money, but I'd buy it. Maybe even try lowballing him on it as well. He's confessed that he knows nothing about it so take advantage of that. Talk shit about transformers and whatnot, he won't know you're bullshitting. Offer him $100.

It definitely sound like a blown tube which is a cheap fix. Depending on if its the power or preamp tubes, 2 6l6 tubes (power) should only run you $50. 5 12AX7s (preamp) are probably ~$100 and you can install them yourself.
