Hey guys, my current guitar is a shty Epiphone SG Junior
, and i´m looking for a new guitar, i like to play metal, but other genres as well, i play mainly Slayer and S.O.A.D. and a bit of Muse, my budget is in average $600 but it cant go over $1000, also i hate Les Paul body design, im looking for something like a Jackson King V or LTD H series, that type of body, i would like if it had active p.u. but that doesn´t really matter , what matters is that it can last and that it is well made, so what do you guys think? Also i can´t try most guitars because where i live there are no guitar centersEDIT ang i forgot that i want it with a fixed bridge because i change tunings A LOT ![]()

go to the guitar store and walk around, looking at guitars
if you see something that interests you in your budget, walk up to it without taking it off the wall, play the strings open once. then touch the bottom part of the guitar with the jack, and the top of the head. if you feel that thing vibrating, its a good deal. try the guitar. if you like its sound, you should go for it. dont test it with distortion first, just play it clean and get a good feel of what it sounds like. if, by any chance, you find your dream sound in a guitar, and its a terrible body shape, then deal with it(not meaning to sound harsh here) i guess one thing that kinda makes sense is that guitar makers tailor the looks to the sound to a certain extent to get more buyers, so chances are that if you're looking at that one flying V, its probably gonna sound like what you want it to sound. this is just my opinion here but yeah. Edit : I totally did not read your last line so my bad. I dont really have any advice on specific good guitars good luck though, hope you get a really nice guitar!Last edited by pushkar000 : 01-18-2013 at 02:44 AM. |

Gibson Flying V and Sg, Ibanez MIJ Artist or Sz, Charvel Pro Mods, Reverend Volcano... Lots of options but these come to mind first.

Reverend gets my vote. Build and quality all top notch. Especially like bass contour knob. Just oozes quality. Hard to find, but worth the hunt, believe me.

Reverends kick ass- I have one on order- but I don't think they're what the OP is looking for. They're probably a little too retro-styled for his preferred genre, and I think most of them are 22 frets. And I don't think any of them have actives, either.
Still, something like the Railhammer-equipped Reeves Gabrels sig II or the new Bayonet & Kingbolt models might do the trick. http://www.reverendguitars.com/category/guitar/

Since I supplied the link to Reverend, here's the one to Fernandes as well:
http://www.fernandesguitars.com/ DBZ has some good offerings in your price range as well: http://www.dbzguitars.com/guitars/browse-by-body-style

Gibson V imo.
Reverend Volcano is a pretty good choice though.

The Volcano is a great guitar, no question, but do you think the P90s could do SOAD & Slayer?
(I'm asking that honestly- I don't know.)

I guess I am just an old fashioned guy. I think what is important is the playability and the sound in a guitar.
And Reverend is tops there, imho. I can sympathize. I would never have a guitar shaped like some of those death metal ones. I might hurt someone, like myself, with it. |

I like the looks of pointy guitars, but I will never own one for playing purposes. I might buy one as a pure collector's move, but I find playing hem uncomfortable.
