It should have been conducted on people who believe they prefer more dynamic range - the self-proclaimed audiophiles themselves, not "music students" - which is a meaningless category in this context.

It would be better to know whether audiophiles can back up their own claims through blind testing, rather than people who don't necessarily care either way.

Personally, I can most certainly hear a difference in music with measurably lower dynamic range. I would happily put my claims to the test.

Doing blind tests I found it pretty hard to differentiate between 24-bit WAVs and 320kbps mp3s, but that could do down to the system and DAC as much as anything.
