Tiny terror tube suggestions?

I just got a new Tiny terror and would like
to get as much hard rock to metal tone out
of my amp as possible. Any suggestions on
what tubes to use would be great. Thanks.

get an overdrive pedal and use it as a boost

e.g. boss sd1 or digitech bad monkey on the cheap. EDIT: unless it's too middy already in which case a more transparent od boost pedal might be worth considering (though you won't get as much compression)- digitech screamin blues or ehx soul food would be worth a try in that case.

better speakers in your cab wouldn't hurt, too. (might be cheaper/handier to sell your cab and just get another cab with better speakers already in it. v30s are a good safe shout for hard rock and metal with orange I think)

Unless your amp is running absolutely awful tubes (which I doubt) doing either of those things will make far more difference than swapping tubes, in my opinion.

dave has a solid point, but many good brands still use crap tubes. i mean, they may be shipping them acorss the world with little glass blubs inside. makes sense to mass stock crap ones instead of high expense ones.

if they are sovtek stock they are most likely garbage. i would recommend taking it out. i may start my search with a tung sol 12ax7. if it is too fizzy even, perhaps a 5751. i tend to like those.

and yes, a good OD is a must. will probably make more difference. as well the cab. a tube a tone shaper. and in the situation of a fizzy mess, may add a hint of clarity. but it wont make or break a tone.

your pedals and cab are major portions of your tone.

i have had the dual terror since it was released. never even looked at the tubes yet. usual i do mix and match a bit, but i just liked how it was now. now when i buy tubes for it i will get another pleasant surprise.

Also the amp is new to me but is a studio
second so mint pretty much but I always
put new tubes in when I first get a amp
and save the old for back up. So any brands
that would be beneficial to the question in
my OP is what I'm after thanks again.

^ Have you checked the tube thread? there's some info in the opening post about tube types/brands.

Also, what's the problem currently? not enough gain? too dark? too bright? etc. the other guys know way more about tube types than I do, but it's hard to advise if we don't know what's wrong currently

yeah that's what i meant- not that tubes don't make a difference, but if you can't get anywhere near the right tone (especially if you're talking amounts of distortion) that using an od and swapping mediocre (or worse) speakers will make a bigger difference.

But from the sounds of it he's already swapped the speakers and already has od pedals

Mine sounds great with stock tubes. I stick an OD in front, DOD YJM308 at this moment.

Its a little to bright for my liking and
I believe it has the stock JJ's in it.
And a little more gain never hurts IMO.
And yes I have Od's, clean boosts, dirt pedals
etc covered. And new speaker's.

New Mullard 12ax7 for V1 and JJ ecc83 for the rest and JJ el84 in the power section.

If you don't mind spending a few bucks KCA NOS tubes has some great deals on ANOS RCA and GE 12ax7's (these are tube pulls that still test as NOS and are about 1/2 the price they typically want for NOS)

I've always used EH 12ax7s for more gain. Can't control the bright with the eq and guitar tone control?
