Pot

Great songwriter/performer. Mediocre on the axe but that's ok for his style

The word "Genius" gets thrown around way too loosely these days.

When I think of musical geniuses I think of guys like Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, Mozart, Pat Metheny, etc.. Guys that were not only technical and influential, but were incredibly original, creative, innovative and constinatly experimenting, pushing the boundaries and doing something different while still able to retain their distinct sound. I think the later things are really what separates the musicians that are "genius" from the ones that were "brilliant" and "great".

I love Neil Young's music. I think he has some qualities of a musical genius, but overall he's suspect and in the "brilliant" range. I'm not saying he's not possibly a musical genius, but I need more convincing.
