I'll bring it up in the mods forum, there's no disputing that the shred forum is very quiet nowadays but I can't speak for the others.

Yeah, but to be fair I think pretty much everyone's taste in music has changed a lot since back in 06! I'm take it you're mainly hanging out in musician's talk nowadays?

So I tried an album by Haken. Fucking hated it. Once again it shows that downloading-before-buying is the only way to go with unfamiliar bands. Samples/snippets wouldn't have done the job.

Fates Warning, on the other hand, left me with a lovely warm fuzzy feeling within myself after buying their new album. I didn't even have to preview it - I just knew it was going to be wonderful, especially after 9 years.

I was never really into shred except Guthrie, Shawn and Holdsworth, that hasn't really changed.

I hang out the most in Guitar Techniques (surprise surprise!), I find that you can actually answer questions fruitfully there. MT often seems to be split into those who don't know and don't want to know, and those who know and don't need to be told.

Tbh just not posting a lot in general, doing lots of guitaring and dota 2, plus I just don't really feel like repeating myself.

How's yourself?

I didn't even know they put out a new album! I guess that is what I get for not visiting this place in forever. Able to compare it to a past album?

It caught me by surprise too. I only learned of it a month ago via Wikipedia (having the Fates Warning article on my watchlist for seemingly no reason turned out to be a good idea).

It pretty much picks up where FWX left off, but without as much clean tone playing. Or, it's exactly like the Arch/Matheos album but with Alder instead. Either way I haven't stopped listening to it all week. Without any doubt, my favourite album of 2013.

I'm doing well! 3rd year medical student in Norway at the moment. Finally got a band going with a decent creative flow too. Came back to UG because we're part of a demo competition and I figured some of the posters in the bandleading forum may have some input on getting votes. Never got around to asking though haha. Feel free to check us out (see sig) and vote if you like it though! Very odd coming back here looking back at old posts, especially considering the fact that in considered myself one of the forum veterans as a 14 year old haha.

Can anyone identify the song Steve Vai's playing around 13:00 in this vid, after Tender Surrender?

It's that time of year where I try and learn some Shawn Lane licks again... just the head from "Who would you like to be". Crikey it's tough! Figured out some neat little tricks with hybrid picking though!

If it's any comfort I have terrible morning breath right now, it's almost spewing cheese.

In relation to my last post I also actually did manage to learn and cover some Shawn Lane, just the head from a wicked live version of Time is the Enemy -

That was sick, man. Every now and then I think to myself "Hey, I think I'm actually getting a little better".

Then I see a few of your videos, and...

I'm a year late but thank for that.

I'm raising this issue again and it seems to be getting more attention this time around.
