Alright, thank you for the quick and useful reply, I'll be sure to snag a better condition power cord. I think the tubes will need to be replaced since they're two or three years old (at least) and hasn't been used since 2 or 3 years ago.

I'm going to sound like a complete knob with this, but can I test these things without a cab?

Can anybody point me towards a place where I can get all the effects types explained to me as to what they do and what they are for? Some I know like tremolo, but a lot of the others I don't like flanger and compression.

Two good places to start:

2-3 years actually isn't too bad for tubes. They might still be ok depending on how often they were used and how hard they were driven. Power tubes would be the most likely to have worn.

Can't really test those without a cab, sadly. You could probably go to a guitar shop and use one of theirs. If it's a Guitar Center or a big box shop just tell them you're looking for a cab to buy

I might just take it on faith that the tubes are ok after hearing the "capacitors CAN kill you," haha, or I'll just get someone else to do it.

but alright, I'll see if I can track a cab down. Thanks for the help.

EDIT: Is it possible to use my Roland solid state Cube 80x as a cab? Because I do own that and it's directly here.

Not without modifying the Cube or opening it up. It's possible but probably not worth doing just to test the head, if you have other options.

Please halp, I have a bunch of rack effects that I bought a real rack for, but I realized I've no idea how to mount them correctly. Google has failed. It looks like you just use screws and nuts with the rack ears on the units, but I'm worried that won't be enough support for them. Will it? or do I have to spend more money on shelves?

They are designed to hang by the front bolts alone.

hey guys, does anyone know if and where I can get electric guitar strings with a 47 gauge E string? I just find the 46 to be too light and the 48 to be too tense. a string inbetween those two would be ideal for me.

I'm not convinced you can actually tell the difference on the low E between 21.43 pounds of tension and 23.33. A 1.9# difference is very, very little on that string.

But if you insist.

New to the forum here but have a serious problem and this is where i thought to go. My Marshall DSL 40C Tube combo amp keeps cutting out while im playing, this is a new issue and whenever I turn it off and turn it back on it works but only for a minute or two. Any ideas on how to fix it or whats wrong? Pretty urgent considering its my main amp. Any help would be appreciated - Rob

First thing to always check with tube amps is tubes.

Otherwise it could be a component inside getting hot. It fails when it's hot, works after cooling down a bit. If it's not a tube, take it to a tech.

Tubes, bad solder joint/loose connection, thermal failure of a component.

Replace tubes, since you need a spare set anyway, then if it still happens get thee hence to a technician.

Anyone know if the Walrus Audio Voyager is a clone of anything? I tried one out the other day and I wasn't sure. My friend was convinced it was a klone, but I didn't think so. Had a nice timbre though.

When using a Roland CUBE Street EX Amp, can you use 1 mic and 2 guitars at the same time through just the 1 amp?

Thanks

I don't have any experience with them, but I think (unless I'm getting them confused with someone else) that a lot of their pedals are clones or tweaked clones. So I'm guessing there's a reasonable chance it's a clone of something, but of what

http://freestompboxes.org/viewtopic...=walrus#p234551

according to that, it's a klone

Hey guys,
so I play rhythm guitar in a band and for the last few years I've been using a shitty guitar to practice, and now I think its time I buy a decent guitar, and I was wondering if you guys had some options for me. My budget is $600, kind of dont want to go over that and it should sound cool as a rhythm guitar for the type of music i play which is metal, punk, alt, and sometimes heavy metal.
