I'll start with asking for what a good metal song is to learn on guitar?
Looking for something of intermediate difficulty (basically on par with the average Metallica song, maybe slightly more challenging of a rhythm) on 6-string. Don't really mind what the tuning is, I'd like a nice lead solo to go with it, but nothing too shreddy/sweepy (God I'm terrible at sweeping) since I prefer the more melodic leads (Fade to Black is probably my favourite solo to play at the moment). Any ideas? I've considered some of the older Trivium stuff, since I've just finished learning most of In Waves. I'd love some Dream Theater but most of it seems so ridiculously demanding... |

So, I've played for three years and I'm looking for some song with moderately fst riffs and solos. The hardest songs I can play are probably Highly Strung - Orianthi ft. Steve Vai and Always with me, always with you - Joe Satriani. The song has to be standard tuning.
And on another note some song to start using the whammy bar, I have a Floyd Rose. |

I'd recommend Overture 1928 by Dream Theater for both of the above posters, it has some fast riffs and solos, but nothing too unbelievably fast, it's one of Dream Theater's less demanding pieces, however it's still rather fiddly, and will require practice, but after learning it, you're a better guitarist for it. The solos are very melodic, and the riffs are fun to get your fingers around as it spans many time signatures, it'll definitely push both of you, however, it will help you improve, I learnt it about two years ago, and it's really pushed my guitar playing to the next level.

Limo Wreck by Soundgarden has some simple natural harmonics. Non-standard tuning CGDGBE Quote:
The Legacy by Testament is within the same sonic realm of Fade to Black, both what could be considered "ballads" and are in minor keys. Last edited by bigblockelectra : 03-28-2013 at 01:04 AM. |

play LAMB OF GOD theyre the ultimate riff makers no scary off beat just standard 4 4 with great rhythms theyre note choices make them sound middle eastern . Since ure not into fast solos i suggest u start playing rhythm riffs with fast picking n stuff. Why dont u start with a classic like megadeth- holy wars c,challenging rhythms , solos or just try some songs by as i lay dying or august burns red or killswitch engage . Im a bit of a metalcore guy ya see. Haha . Hope this helped |

So I've been talking to this chick and she's into what I would classify as hardcore music (but I don't really listen to it so I'm not entirely sure if I'm calling it the right genre). Mainly bands life BFMV that have drop-C guitars with a tenor for a singer who occassionally screams.
- I've been playing for several years, somewhere between 3 and 5. - I'd say I'm decent at guitar. Examples of songs I can play (to give you an idea): Bat Country, Nightmare, Two Minutes To Midnight, Symphony of Destruction - Criteria: Newer songs that are like BFMV that a teenage 'metalhead' girl would listen to - What I usually play: 80's metal/rock. Mostly Megadeth, GNR, Metallica. I also like A7X. Thanks in advance. I realize this may be an odd request. |

I am basically required to suggest Megadeth since you like Metallica. Give "A Tout Le Monde" a listen, it's one of their more melodic songs. It's a bit more challenging, but I also recommend you give Annihilator a listen. Check out "The Fun Palace", "Imperiled Eyes" and "The Trend" by them. |

I've been given a project which requires me to do a performance with in a group, the group was pre-selected and it involves two guitarists and one bassist.
So thats one rhythm guitar, one lead guitar (me) and one bassist. So the second guitarist isn't particularly advanced but the bassist is pretty dope. So I was wondering if anyone had ideas of what we could perform. If we had perussion it'd be quite a bit easier, we'd most likely just do a jazz or blues standard. But what can we do to fill out that 'space'? Cheers

Do an Albert Collins instrumental (check out Truckin' With Albert Collins album). Might have to transcribe yourself but they aren't complicated, and you have two guitar parts and a bassline, guitarists can swap doing the lead/rhythm and play some solos.

I'm interested in learning some songs and/or exercises to help with different timing, since I pretty much play everything 4/4 right now. I am self-taught, have some books on classical, blues, jazz, & rock guitar, but mostly just look up songs I like or study music theory by reading articles I find through Googling. I could dig through my books, probably find some pieces to learn in different timing but I am sort of hoping for some stuff that is fun, like, "here's a great song that's fun to play and will get you used to changing timing mid-song, (or playing in 3/4 or whatever)".

I'm looking for a Joe Satriani song to play or maybe a Jimi Hendrix song (mainly Satriani songs though). I've tried to learn songs like Revelations but I don't know what it is that's putting me off. I think I'm not into the song or that I don't find it fun to play. I really like to play Crossroads to practice my hammering and pull-offs, and also because enjoy listening and playing the song. I only know how to play the first half of the song because that's what I was focusing on and I've lost the sheets to the song so FML. Honestly I'm an intermediate player (I play a lot of punk) and the most impressive song I could play is probably Crossroads.

I'm looking for a slow song (ballad) with slide guitar in it (possibly acoustic), like Gilmour's Smile.

All that comes to mind is Roy Gallagher's "Wanted Blues".
