Considering gauge change

Hey everyone, if you could give me some facts and your testimony about this, I;d greatly appreciate it.

I play an 8-string, Schecter Omen 8, and play a lot of progressive music, with shred solos. I have noticed for quite awhile that my pick tends to "catch" on lighter strings when I'm playing fast, so I'm now considering a change to a higher gauge string for the G,B, and E strings, hoping that my pick wouldn't catch so much. Do you think that would resolve the issue with my pick? I'm not asking about this change affecting my left hand, simple my right hand.
