Indeed...I feel bad for him, especially since he quit his job and such T.T part of me wants to say "It's a hard lesson that he apparently needed to learn" but the other part of me feels terrible for him.

People sometimes believe things that are too good to be true, because they want it to be true. If he is being scammed, he's too caught up in the prospect of fame and fortune that he doesn't realise it.
