Blackstar ID series or Vypyr VIP?

So im going to upgrade from my Line 6 Spider finally, and i want something thats going to be quiet enough to practice in my house with my family, but loud enough to jam with.

Ive pretty much ruled out tube amps, because i want to stay under $500 Canadian, and I hear you have to crank them to get the tone you want.

Ive narrowed it down to two amps: Blackstar ID:15 or 30 TVP, or the new Peavey Vypyr VIP series.

Do any of you have experience with both of these? Which is better for styles including Metallica, Edguy, Slayer, Amon Amarth?

(I cant try either of these out before trying as i live in a very rural area with really bad music stores)

And / goes the thread.

And by the way what you heard was wrong. When you crank tube amps, they almost always sound *better* - that has been horribly twisted throughout the years to somehow meaning that tube amps sound bad at low volumes. Not the case whatsoever with any modern tube amp designed for preamp gain and an FX loop (for fine tuning your level if needed).

More traditionally designed amps still fall under that category for the most part, IMO, though obviously you're not going to be getting any real distortion out of them. If a tube amp straight up sounds bad at low volumes, it probably just sounds bad period.

And if you get something actually designed to do what it is you want to do tonally, you most likely won't have any problems.
