cheap amp-which one to go?
So I have these options to go:
Vox Pathfinder 10 Peavey Rage 158 Behringer GM108 Laney HCM10 Fender Frontman 15G Roland Cube x 15 NUX Might 8 and that's all. I play everything, I need it just for a room. If distorsion pedal is needed, I would buy it later. Last edited by AngelofCrucifix : 11-19-2012 at 05:05 PM. |

Why are those the only options?
And I wouldn't buy a distortion pedal. It will be a waste of money.

I'd go for the vox or the fender I guess but this must be how my kids feel when I tell 'em they can pick anything they want at the dollartree. Also, kinda like voting in US elections

Roland Cube looks like the best option out of the list.
If you can get a Peavey Vypyr, do so.

Peavey Vypyr 15 ,done. Trust me, in your price range it's great! I have a 30 watt Vypyr and like it a lot.

+1 The speaker is really a dealbreaker IMO. I say this as a former owner of a Vypyr 15 (also owned the 75 and currently own the 120H.) I never recommend them, unless that's absolutely all TS can get. Even still I think it's better than any of the other $100 modelers. Only one I haven't played yet is the Mustang, but from what I'd heard the Vypyr would still stomp on it as far as high gain is concerned.

Save up. But since that's never an option in these threads (sigh), Roland Cube or Peavey Vypyr 15.

If you only have $60 to spend, you won't get any good amps for that price. Wait until you have at least $100 or $150. I mean, it shouldn't take that long to get a bit more money. And do you already have an amp? If so and just need a small amp for bedroom practice, I would suggest Roland Microcube. (I looked at some of your threads and they said you have a budget of $600-700.)

Seriously, do yourself a favor and save your money for longer to buy something more worthwhile. If you're serious about guitar at all, none of those amps are a good choice. If you can save up for a used Vypyr 30, you would be MUCH better off.
After that, you should be saving up for a guitar with Humbuckers instead of Single Coils. If you must buy a cheap amp that is not going to do you any good in terms of passable tone, out of the ones listed, the Roland Cube is the best choice. If I were to suggest an amp, it would be the Vypyr 15, but that still isn't going to do you any justice. Avoid the Peavey Rage like the plague. A friend gave me one, and the best thing I can say about the amp is that the cleans can be decent. Everything else is terrible, and the overdrive channel will not ever get you anywhere close to Metal. Seriously, though, don't waste your hard-earned money. Save up for longer and buy an amp that will actually do you some justice. The Vypyr 30 isn't that much more expensive than your budget allows. For real, don't waste your time and money. Save up. Honestly. Save your time and money. No kidding. Save up. Like many of the other guys have said. Save your money, and buy something that will actually give you some decent tones. Last time, just save your money for the Vypyr 30.
