I was already aware of Fleshcrawl and Dream Death. Cianide, Pungent Stench, Divine Eve, and Winter are definitely close to the mark and I enjoyed them a lot. Need to give the rest a fair shake. Thanks.

Death Strike is one of Paul Speckmann's early projects. The lyrics are therefore socio-political, but the music is very much raw death metal with heavy hardcore influence. It's closer in sound to Severed Survival but still in that Autopsy sound area.

That Necrophagia album is death metal of the oldest school. It came out in '87, I think. It might be a bit of a stretch, but I thought it was close enough.

Carrion for Worm actually features Reifert on guest vocals. They don't have the doom elements Autopsy had, but play ultra-sick grinding death metal that fits in the same artistic domain as what Autopsy was doing.

Have listened to all three, Death Strike being the best out of them but the others are quality as well. Would listen twice.

Checked 'em all out. Quality stuff.

Necrophagia: While not doomy like Autopsy, their old school and spirit set a similar tone that worked well. Plus, I've been on a horror movie kick lately, so songs about zombies has added effect.

Death Strike: It's got Speckmann in it. I love Master. That is all.

Nuclear Death: Okay, that album wasn't bad, but the production quality made it suffer a lot for me. I'm listening to Bride Of Insect and find it to be much clearer and more ravenous, so we all good for them.

Again, thanks for the recs.

Hey all, I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I'm looking for some death metal recommendations. I haven't followed the DM scene since about 2008, and I'm looking for some new music similar to Suffocation, Decapitated, Nile, Behemoth, etc. Preferably brutal and technical haha. Any recs? And sorry if this is the wrong place.

@a_van_man: Based on those bands, I recommend Psycroptic and Ouroboros.

Looking for something like this, melancholic/depressing metal with some faster or heavier parts mixed in.

@haydenhohns, both those bands sound good, ouroboros sounds a lot like necrophagist, which is cool. And I'm liking allegaeon too. Thanks!

Are bands like Deicide and Cryptopsy too obvious?

If so,

Wormed - Plaenespharium
Deeds of Flesh - Path of the Weakening
Dying Fetus - Killing on Adrenaline
Devourment - Molesting the Decapitated
Benighted - Benighted
Gorerotted - Mutilated in Minutes/Only Tools and Corpses

I went outside of the brutal/technical thing to either fulfill one or the other. If you don't like em, feel free to post about it I won't be offended.

Is this because of the Dark Descent reissues of Morgue's Eroded Thoughts? Just curious, fella.

So, from what I gathered, it's like veiny heavy **** death metal,

R.U. Dead? - Compilation
Avulsed - Deformed Beyond Belief
Mythos - Moulded in Clay
Wombbath - Internal Caustic Torment

for the odd chance you're not already a fan, Impetigo's Horror of the Zombies. I do have more though, but I realize it's stupid late for recommendations.

@severed-metal, thanks for the recommendations!

Yeah I've been listening to Diecide and Cryptopsy for a long time, great bands!

Also Dying Fetus is one of my favorites, can't believe I forgot to mention them earlier.

I'm going through the other bands right now and Deeds of Flesh is good, reminds me of Decrepit Birth (Concepting the Era), which I love. And I'll get to the rest in good time haha.

Listening to R.U. Dead? right now and I'm enjoying it a lot. I'll get to the others throughout the day. I've only heard bits and pieces of Horror of the Zombies, I'll check it out as well. Thanks, and any more are completely appreciated.

Looking for more bands like Solstice and Procession. AKA, doom that crushes and takes you on really long musical journeys.

@SeveredSurvival: Forsaken is what you're after. Listen to Armida's Kiss. The modulation to Phrygian Dominant that happens between verse and pre-chorus (IIRC) is absolutely devastating. The track is nine minutes so I hope that's long enough for you (epic solo too).

@The Virtuoso: Glad you liked it, they're my favourite Epic Doom Metal band. I think they're working on a new album at the moment. So hopefully it will also slay.
