Combo guitar amp on a budget

Hey everyone!

Iím looking to buy a combo guitar amp and my budget is $250. I know that isnít much but Iím in college and donít have a lot of cash to spare. I have a MIM Fender Strat. I also have a Peavey Vypyr 15 and Iím not crazy about it. The sound doesnít bug me but I really donít want a modeling amp at all. I want something more simplistic. Iím totally open to buying a used amp. Iíd really rather not buy a China made amp, but Iím not completely against it. I play mostly alternative but Iíd like to have a fairly versatile amp. I wonít be playing metal. I will be using this amp for bedroom jamming and small gigs. Iíd like a 12Ē speaker and as long as it is loud enough to play in bars and small theaters, wattage doesnít matter to me. I have no real brand preference but I am fond of Peavey, Fender, and Vox sound. Also, I definitely want to be able to use a footswitch with it.

I am open to all advice and thank you guys so much in advance for sharing your amp knowledge with me!

You could get a used AC15C1. Although Vox's these days are made in China - don't let that put you off because it has to be one of the best decisions Vox has made. The English ones were insanely unreliable.

Anything that cheap is made in China. So much stuff comes from China nowadays. I wouldn't care that much about where it was made. Chinese people can make good stuff but of course the cheaper the stuff, the worse QC it usually has. But yeah, I wouldn't worry about Chinese made stuff. I have had two Chinese made guitars (Epiphone LP that I sold and my Tokai bass) and neither have had any problems.

The only USA made combo that fits what you are asking is either a used Peavey VTM 1x12 combo (if you can find one) or a Peavey Ultra 1x12 combo

look here they had a Peavey Ultra 1x12 combo for $219 the other day www.guitarcenter.com/usedgear
