Cute haha ^^

Music teaching, mostly theoretical though. In that case, I'd probably go the professorial route eventually. I prize my ears and mental orchestra a lot.

Makes sense - I'm surprised the lack of music undergrad is a dealbreaker, surely you can demonstrate ability without it?

Also I'm envious of the ears, I've graduated from "tone deaf" to "quite bad" over years of work.

According to the advisor, they're looking for points in a trifecta: a degree, research, and music/teaching/composition experience. Sigh. If I got a month of just looking at 20th century theory, I think I'd pass all their diagnostics, but they don't do entrance exams, just application (which, granted, has a bit of counterpoint stuff but that can't show the breadth of my ability).

My music theory teacher hated me, probably because I didn't listen to him when he said I should've gone into first year music theory instead of jumping into second. Still passed perfectly fine after a month of getting used to part-writing practices.

i'm not sure if this makes sense but i remember you talking frequently about thinking horizontally and not getting locked into thinking about harmony in a rigid way, and that score's a great example of it. it highlights the visuals well and it moves where it's "supposed to go", for lack of a better term, but it still feels very free to tell its own story.

Thanks!

By "thinking horizontally" I meant more that I think everything in terms of melody / polyphony instead of blocks of chords in a sequence. Allows the music to be more flexible and agile and I can plan ahead clearly, which is certainly useful for scoring to visuals.

I finally feel good about this particular track. The original was mixed and produced terribly and has always been a disappointment. Recently had a sudden dramatic improvement in mixing abilities.

I'm back, starting a YouTube channel dedicated to guitar lessons and theory lessons. Also thinking about Q&A's.

What do people want to see?

I have the tightest wedding band of all time, you missed out.

Thanks man! A little over 3 years ago now, still enjoying married life!

My wedding band was a keyboard/drums duo who played some System Of A Down and Slipknot, I don't really know if you could've topped that but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

I'm just popping in and killing bots occasionally, I'm kept really busy with college and part-time guitar teaching - how're you guys (including those I didn't quote!)?

3 years ago?? Haha wow I must have known that!! :P

I've been avoiding work and procrastinating by visiting UG writing epic posts and then not posting them. Then playing guitar for a bit and trying to learn the art of mixing which I still suck at...everything is just mud.

Eventually I will get some work done but I still have a little over two weeks until my deadline and about four weeks of work so will probably actually get started in a few days. I need a boss that understands me and can apply pressure before stuff is needed then giving it straight back to me and asking me to sharpen it up. Instead I give them stuff on time and that they think is excellent work when I know I could have done a much better job.

Still dreaming of one day giving it all up working at McDs and playing my guitar all day everyday. ahh but responsibilities, ya know.

^ Yeah I was sure it had been public knowledge at the time but memory fades!

Sounds like you're a little underemployed and good at your job - no chance of a external promotion or going self-employed? You'd get more work done and head towards retiring with the guitar quicker.

Not unless you want completely improvised set lists.

I'm good, took a bit of a UG sabbatical but slowly coming back in; staying way too busy with 3 teaching jobs, a music directing gig, the jazz trio, the solo project, session work, the hip-hop gig, and a final band I'm currently playing touring guitar for. I actually just got back in town.

Let the kids know that's what you have to do to pay the bills.

All I need now is a raise for all of those and I wont need a ninth job.

Oh wait my 9th job is killing bots and talking about modes.

I'm self employed already. I work on contract. I'm just not disciplined enough, nor do I quite enjoy my job enough to want to work my ass off at it everyday.
