Hi guys, Troy McCosker here, Tracking engineer/Co-producer for "Portal of I"

Glad everyone seems to be digging the album. a lot of work went into making it what it is.

Tim was spot on.. Engl fireball for rhythm guitars through a Blackstar artisan 4x12 mic'd with a single Audix i5 if memory serves me correctly. Some of the Lead tones were a 5150II, I vaguely recall using a Blackstar ht100 for some other leads but I'm not certain.. most of the clean tones were either a Blackstar artisan 30h or 100h or a Bogner ecstasy..

We tried a few amps before going with the fireball. It worked well as it had a lot of power without too much low end information.. leaving as much room for the kicks and bass as possible..

If anyone has any other questions drop them here and I'll try and get to them soon..
Cheers Troy

Great to hear that you've gotten back into playing the violin!!

Tim, I'm curious as to what Violin techniques you primarily use? I've been able to listen to all of 'Portal Of I' now, and your playing makes me extremely interested when I listen.

Bass was DI'd through an Amek 9098 then reamped through Cygnus' lab systems rig from memory, (Probably 2 or 3 mics on the cab, I vaguely remember a senn. 441 and an Audix D6) I believe there was a "dirt" track as well which may have been Tech 21 VTbass pedal that was used in some sections to help it cut through the mix.. In the end i think there was around 5 tracks for bass sent to mix although I'm not sure what was used in the final product..

DAN PRESLAND RETURNS AS DRUMMER OF NE OBLIVISCARIS

“It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce that Dan Presland is returning as the drummer for Ne Obliviscaris.

We would like to offer a huge thanks to Nelson Barnes, who did an incredible job in all the shows in the 6 months he was playing with Ne Obliviscaris. We’re sure that he’s headed for big things with his band ‘The Schoenberg
Automaton’ and wish him all the best into the future. In the end, the decision to bring Dan back was less to do with Nelson and more to do with the fact that we never really wanted to part ways with Dan in the first place and have such great chemistry working together. Dan was our drummer from our early days, right up to and including the recording of Portal Of I, (2005-2011), and in the end an incredibly difficult year last year, where the whole future of the band was in doubt with Benji stuck in France and no clear future in sight, took it’s toll on everyone and Dan moving on was one of the results of that.

For us, this feels a bit like getting back together with your ex-wife. We have such a long history together, so many great memories and much love for each other, and despite some ups and downs, everyone is as determined as ever to make it all work. Dan has already started rehearsing again with the band and will be playing drums on our upcoming Australian tour starting on September 7. We’ve also started writing material for album #2 already, and are incredibly excited about working together again and with the way the new material is coming along thus far.

See you on tour! – NeO”

Any chance of another NZ tour sometime soon? I missed the apparently ripping u18 gig you guys did a while back, and I've been itching to come see you live.

We'll be looking at tour options overseas in a month or so, so it will definitely be discussed....we shall see, just waiting on some things currently.

Well this will dramatically shorten the time I spend tabbing out NeO songs .

EDIT: Wait, is that Guitar Pro tabs too?

Yes...it will be Guitar Pro tabs as well as PDF. Should be available in a couple of months, just had a few other things to organise lately...one of which we'll be announcing in a few days.

NE OBLIVISCARIS SIGN TO Season of Mist

"To say we're excited to join a roster that includes bands such as Cynic, Morbid Angel, Mayhem, Arcturus, The Contortionist, SÓLSTAFIR, Atheist, Samael, Deathspell Omega & many more is an understatement.

For us as a band, signing to Season of Mist, one of the best independent metal labels in the world, a label whose roster includes some of our all time favourite bands and influences, is quite surreal. We worked for many years to get our debut album 'Portal Of I' out there for the world to hear and for its reception to have been so overwhelmingly positive, and for a label like this to not only love our music, but believe we can go places in the worldwide metal scene is incredible. It is one of those things that just gives us even more motivation to keep composing and performing and trying to take NE OBLIVISCARIS as far as we can to as many people across the world as possible. We're currently in the middle of writing our next album with plans to record late 2013 and we can't wait to get it out there to the world and take that next step in partnership with Season of Mist."

Congrats guys

Is the writing older material that you've developed or completely new stuff?

Newer ideas since Benji has been in the band, so it's definitely fresh but still it sounds like us.

Never knew you guys (or at least one of you) were members here!

Thank you guys for writing such awesome prog metal. I consider "Forget Not" as a freaking masterpiece and worship it closely to some Opeth classics.

Can't wait for you guys to come to Montréal one time!

Thank you for the kind words. We'll get to Montréal eventually, it seems we have a few fans there already!

Forget Not I guess will end up our anthem song I think, despite Plague being the most popular so far. Tabs will be available soon for all POI songs. Cheers!

Bit late, but congrats on the signing. Very, very cool. Very keen for tabs, but that's cool, I know how much of a bitch THAT can be.

Pretty intrigued to see where the new material goes. You've already established a nice little resevoir of genres and sounds to pull into the songs, so I'm highly interested in where that will lead now that the HUUUUGE wait for POI is over. Maybe an album ever 2 years instead of every.... I wanna say 124 years? It feels like that since I found the demo haha.

No, but seriously, should be a blast.
