Lots of guys use Soundcloud. I'm not a huge fan of it, personally, but it's cool if you want to stream your music and not allow anyone to download it.

I usually just upload to Dropbox.

I'm the same - use Dropbox for anything important (e.g. as a host for people to get our last album as MP3 and WAV, to review, in the past) - but I recently created a band Soundcloud as it integrates well into websites etc. as a widget when you want to share with the public/fans and have them interact with comments etc.

Also, re: mp3 removal, given the huge amount of users on this site that will have uploaded mp3s, I think it's reasonable that the people in charge of UG have decided that it doesn't make sense to host them all anymore - the size of the forums, and various articles etc. are a considerable cost already. Unfortunate, but not inexcusable.

There's also the fact it was supposed to encourage a sort of social media-esque interaction on the Profiles section of the site, but that never really took off and not many people use the profile pages now, other than to send PMs or linking to songs on there.

Yeah, don't get me wrong - I can understand why they're doing it, I'm just disappointed cos it means I have to set myself up somewhere else.

Streaming without the ability to download is exactly what I'm after. It would be good to be able to have a Blog section on my profile too, which a quick check (very quick) doesn't look available. Thats a minor thing though, can live without that.

The main thing it seems to be missing for me is the ability to set up different pages within my profile to host the different projects I've done in the past. I don't want to have to set up different accounts for each project. Is that not possible or am I just missing something?

I dunno, can you set up playlists or something? I've not really looked into Soundcloud beyond uploading a couple of tracks, but I imagine there will be a way of categorising songs, either by album or genre or 'project' or something. Have a scout around and if you can't find anything, I'll have a look later.

You can have different playlists on soundcloud, but the profile page and info (so description and genre and picture) will be the same for every account.

Also there's no blog option.

I usually use kiwi6.com but I use it for work and that's hardly what you're looking for.
Very basic looking, no blog, no different accounts, you can even forbid people from checking all the music you have in your account.

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

I'm too busy browsing noistrade.com which I just discovered.
And it's awesome!
You guys should have a look at it as well.
It's basically a more indie and cooler version of bandcamp.
Or at least I'm guessing it's more indie 'cause I mostly browse djent on bandcamp and I've only seen country/indie/folk/pop in the 15 minutes I've been on it.

Edit: yeah definitely more indie.
I'm feeling so cool and underground browsing folk music and clicking "like" on pages with 1k or less likes on fb

New issue of Sound on Sound has an interview with Joey Sturgis. Anyone interested in some scans?
