A 5751 has 90% of the gain of a 12AX7 on paper but the reality of it is that a Phillips 5751 normally has just as much gain as the majority of modern tubes. And anyway 10% in elctronics may as well be 0% anyway given tolerances. You'll hear the difference because it's a Phillips, not because it's got less gain. Phillips tubes are great (Phillips owned Mullard btw).

Not sure if you are talking to me. Tolerances in electronics aside, I was just trying to give the guy a general gauge to go on. I notice a difference between the two. That said, I certainly wouldn't call them 'low gain', which is what the TS said. I was trying to clarify a bit. I personally feel they are pretty close, even though different.

Right now I have a cart with JJ 6v6s, 2 JJ 12ax7 ECC83s, a JJ GZ34 rectifier tube, 2 JJ 12at7 ECC81s and a JAN 5751. 130 + shipping.

Sweet. Where are you getting them from out of curiosity?

I was just clarifying and supporting what you said really.
