changing pickups
Hey everyone.
I recently bought an Ibanez RGT42DX Link to guitar I really like the guitar but would like to switch to some better pickups for metal. I was looking at the seymour duncan invader pickups Link the question is would these fit when the Ibanez have a 5 toogle switch? or could there be any problems? and also recommendations for good metal pickups are welcome Thanks Alot -Rune |

The invader will suit your metal needs no problem there. I have one of these bruisers in my Rg570 sounds great.

There will be no problem whatsoever as long as you have a tech put them in.

You can even put them in yourself if you know what you're doing.
If you don't, it might not be the best project for learning how to solder. If you already know how to solder, but can't figure out how to wire it, we can help here. They should be direct replacements for what you've got (although the wire color codes might be different between Ibanez & Seymour Duncan; Google should help you with Ibanez wiring diagrams and the Invaders should come with a diagram). IMHO, the Invaders sound great in mahogany guitars--got one in my Schecter. You'll find lots of people here on UG who hate them, but it's all subjective, so your mileage may vary. |

this is so wrong. Pickups are really easy to install in a guitar. It is cheaper to buy a cheap 25-30 watt soldering iron $20 max and a $3 roll of solder and do your own

Good point. Sometimes it can be harder to find one of them than to just learn how to solder. |

InB4 "Well, then what you really need is a new amp" ![]() Though 99% of the time here that's true. So many practice amps don't sound much different with different pickup models. Especially not the usual suspects here (Spiders and MGs) |

Thanks alot for all the helpfull answers
![]() Im gonna try out the invader, i know how to solder but i think im just gonna leave that to a tech or maybe practise a little on one of my other guitars first. I play through an Engl Fireball 100 with mesa speaker so i think that will do just fine. |

Yeah, I think you'll be able to hear the difference on that rig ![]() Unless you have a tech you really, really trust and don't mind wasting money, then most of us on this thread would encourage you to do it yourself. I saw a couple of your band's videos and I think there's a solid chance you'll like the Invader. You may also want to consider using a Seymour Duncan Jazz in the neck for more versatility. It's a surprisingly popular combination. |
