I know a lot of you in this thread work on their own cars, and I recall seeing more than one conversation about searching for car manuals, found this on Jalopnik.com and figured at least some of you could make use of it, hope it helps: http://justgivemethedamnmanual.com/

EDIT: I seem to have made a terrible mistake, these aren't mechanic's/technical manuals ( not sure that's the right term) but they're just the owner's manuals

I'm going to be putting an oil pressure and boost gauge into my OBXT, seeing how it desperately lacks them and I don't like idiot lights.

I've been torn between digital gauges and analog gauges. What do you guys think?

This is a picture of what my gauge cluster looks like (minus the gear indicator, I have a manual)
show

An other question, if anyone knows, electrical vs mechanical boost gauges, what are the pros and cons of each?

Any of you more knowledgeable folks have any opinions on the Mazda 3? I'm particularly looking at the i Sport. Seems like the best car in my price range (sub $20k) after doing some research.

They're nice cars, was looking to buy a used one last year. Nice quality for the price, and they handle quite well too. I think you get more for your money than an Elantra or a Sentra.

I'd wait until the next generation though, they're gonna get rid of the huge orange peel smile !

Thanks. I don't mind the smile and I need a car very soon so I'm most likely going to go with the current model.

The 3 is a great car. It's built better than almost anything else in the class (better than the Civic and Corolla, two of the mainstays in the quality department, and better than the Elantra/Forte). They're quick, have an average feature set, average fuel mileage, and are a hoot to drive--they feel much like a scaled down E46 3-Series. Also the only compact that is actually built in Japan. They have above average warranties, outstanding crash ratings, and decent service centres. I'd recommend one. If you can, grab a Skyactiv 3 hatchback with a manual and you'll love it.

I was thinking about doing this to my Outback, with a JDM Double DIN and some flashy touch screen head unit. Too bad I can't justify that. I might just Plasti-Dip the stock stuff. I'm eager to see what it looks like in the Imprezza.

Speaking of my Outback, I had a second Cylinder 2 misfire code today. Scare the shiznit out of me. Turns out my spark plug wasn't tight enough. If this code gets thrown again I'm doing a leakdown and compression test...

My rear driver side door window on my Taurus just randomly exploded while I was getting gas a week ago. Got a 2012 Nissan Frontier a couple weeks ago. It's awesome.

Pictures are a tad dark to show the new color, but they're mighty fine to display my new double din
I'll post pics in daylight tomorrow.

It's actually pretty easy to paint the center console, as long as you don't mind not having one in your car for a day or two.
1- Remove it from your car, that should be fairly easy. A few screws and snaps.
2- Clean with alcohol, to remove any leftover armor all or grease ( also dust behind the panels while you're at it )
3- Slightly scratch the console with a medium-fine steel wool, to make the primer adhere even better to the plastic
4- Spray a few thin coats of spray primer, make sure it will adhere to plastic before buying it.
5- Use whatever spray paint you want, I bought the metallic carbon black from Rust-Oleum. YOu could use anything from stone effect to enamel. Again, spray a few thin coats for a better finish.
6- Find a though clear coat, cheap stuff won't do because it will scratch too easily.
Spray a few thin coats.
7- If you want, you can polish the clear coat, but it's not necessary, the finish should be good enough for a console with a consistent spraying technique.
8- Re-Install, wait at least 24 hours so that the paint is dry.

I didn't elaborate too much on drying time, most spray paints allow you to add coats within an hour, but they are usually dry in 24 hours. Just make sure to read.

That looks pretty great.

Now I wish I had $600 to get an HVAC/Radio divorcer and a touchscreen double DIN headunit.

Damn you!

Alright, so dilemma here. I've got to figure out whats going on with my girlfriend's toyota echo...

I bought cheap code reader, came back with a PO141 code. Of course this code reader doesn't say which bank or sensor. But I know it's an O2 sensor, and my mechanic had read the same code with his much better code reader a while back saying she might need a new cat. Which leads me to believe it's probably a bad post-cat sensor. Or it could actually be a bad cat, but I find that hard to believe because it's got 90k km on it and it's a 2004. Like, it's not that old...

So I can:

Buy a new post-cat o2 sensor and replace the old one. Now if it's not that sensor, or if it's the cat after all, then that would end up being a waste of 120$. So there's that. Then of course I would still have to find out if it's another sensor or the cat, which is another process which might entail buying another sensor and replacing it (gotta take the passenger seat off and all for some reason) and hoping it's that sensor.

Or I could just say **** it, buy a decent cat only for cheap, have my mechanic cut the old one off and weld the new one on. Which is probably going to be a few hundred bucks, including the 150$-ish range catalytic converters that I saw online.

Should I got for it and just replace the post-cat O2 sensor? And perhaps piss my girlfriend off out of 120$ for nothing and still have to figure out what's wrong and spend more money?
