who needs friends when you have my bloody valentine?

I thought Hiwatt was pretty popular, didn't tons of '70s cats use them? I mean I guess it never got to Marshall/Fender iconic status, but they are not totally obscure or anything.

I imagine Kevin must've had several amps on stage, so asking the audience if they could hear one specific amp is pretty goofy.

I think The Quietus is great, nothing wrong with getting a bit over-excited about MBV, it's to be expected really.

Mine came yesterday too. However, looking through the booklet literally every other image would have worked better I think.

Saw them last night. It was good, but not quite as amazing as their reputation would suggest. Sound was a bit iffy to begin with, lots of high end reflections which is odd as the Apollo usually has a pretty tight sound, but it got better as it went on. I also felt they started a lot quieter than their reputation would suggest they would have been, but I might be wrong, but I felt it got louder as at went on culminating in a building shaking ten minute section of noise in the middle of You Made Me Realise which was incredible.
I know I'm hardly some uber fan of theirs, only really getting into them in the last 8 months, but the number of people going mad for Only Shallow annoyed me, I think it's one of the less good tracks on the album, but it felt like the only one people actually knew.

Only Shallow is boss but I can see what you mean. They definitely have better songs to go mad for (You Made Me Realise)

Seeing them tomorrow with GezzyDiversion, who's apparently too cool for UG now. I'm still not really sure what level of volume to expect. Neither Swans nor Sunn O))) were quite as loud as all the hyperbole had me believe (still fucking loud though) and I guess MBV will probably be the same.

If its anything like last night it'll be bearable without earplugs, but the last half hour will make you think you probably should be wearing a pair. (I dropped my complimentary pair on the floor by accident). Some people looked in pain at one point. haha

I make this one off return to UG to post in the ever faithful MBV thread, after discovering them 3 years ago, BenRaah and myself finally experienced them live. I love the Apollo in Hammersmith and the sound there was excellent. Le Volume Courbe were a little boring and finished at 8:30pm leaving a 45 min wait for MBV to arrive onstage at 9:15pm.
The songs sound different in a live setting but you realize this is there true form. The set was pretty standard mix of songs from Loveless, Isnt Anything and the EP's and thankfully Only Tomorrow, New You and a closer of Wonder 2 if the 10 min YMMR wasnt enough for you.
The Holocaust section is an experience, even though it was only 10 mins in length, it was just enough to make you forget what anything else sounds like. I'm glad I had some decent earplugs!
MBV were everthing I wanted them to be and Bilinda at 51 is still looking pretty fine.

I Only Said
When You Sleep
New You
You Never Should
Honey Power
Cigarette in Your Bed
Only Tomorrow
Come in Alone
Only Shallow
Thorn
Nothing Much to Lose
To Here Knows When
Slow
Soon
Feed Me With Your Kiss
You Made Me Realise
Wonder 2

Finally listening to m b v

It's amazing that after two decades that this band can still deliver such quality material. So far this album sounds like nostalgia, melancholy, an almost surreal, lucid pop from another perception of reality. MBV really know how to write NEW and interesting sounds.

Gig was incredibly underwhelming. Never seen a band look more disinterested.

MBV still rules, and Bilinda only gets better with age. That is all.

Seriously? Colm and Debbie were both really into it in London. Kevin and Bilinda lived up to the shoegaze tag pretty well but that's exactly what I was expecting from them.

I have to change the station anytime a song from their new album comes on the radio. Dunno why.

I know music shouldn't be all about playing up to the stereotype, but I thought that was where the shoegaze name came from the sort of look down and let the music and visuals do the talking.
