So I'm looking to buy a new 4x10 soon. My band opened for another band a while back called A Willhelm Scream. Their bassist offered to let me use his bass cabs. He has 2 Orange 4x10's and I could have SWORN they had metal grills. However I can't find any Orange cabs that feature this. Has anyone else seen this before? I really dug the way the cabs sounded and they looked gorgeous. Thanks.

I would guess that he probably just got some custom grills for existing cabs. If you know who they are have you thought about getting in contact and asking what cabs they are?

I have never seen an Orange cabinet without their trademark wicker straw grille cloth. It could be a one-off, or the owner may have replaced the original.

You can buy metal grill from a supplier of punched perforated sheet metal.
I use this diamond pattern on the cabs I build but you can get square and round punched holes.
I put 1/2" neoprene tape on the inside edge to prevent rattle/vibration

There's a guy named Alex Auxier who works Artist Relations for Orange. He runs their twitter/Facebook, or at least he used to, and he's great at answering questions like this. Ask him via one of those routes and he should be able to get back to you with a solid answer, at least whether it was a custom job and if they handled it in-house for the guy.
