Decided I'm gonna give the album stream ago.

I'm going in cynical, let's see if they can change my mind.

My running commentary:

10 minutes in and I'm already starting to wish something else would happen.

Second 10 minutes > First 10 minutes. It's chuggy sure... but it's not just OPEN chugging. There are actually some riffs.

I got 23 minutes in the first time, and I was like, "Huh, the only interesting thing to happen is that they used classical guitar on that one chorus." The riffs just aren't that interesting.

Eh, I'd disagree.

Currently at the 40 minute mark and there was just a kick ass groove riff.

Ok, but it's not like the album is full of kick ass grooves. Hell, half the grooves pretty much get ruined because of the ambient guitar. It's like they're trying so hard to be ambient that they miss a lot of opportunities to really emphasize good guitar riffs.

You gotta go into it, NOT looking for a metal album.

Cuz it isn't really.

I have to argee with ChemicalFire; it's really not about the riffs, the ambiance is what they want you to focus on from what I can hear. If they wanted to go less ambient then surely the vocals would be less textural than they are? Besides which I find there to be plenty of groove in what they do

Overall, happy with the album. Pre-ordered it when I was done listening to the stream.

I listened to 20 minutes before I shut it off.

I remember a vocal melody and a riff that stuck in my head, everything else sounded really...plain. It was like boring djent mixed with 30 seconds to mars.

I guess this is a band I'll never enjoy.
