Looks like the pace of play rules actually do include something like what I said about relivers
Well then. I still don't think it's going to make a noticeable difference.

We'll see. But I'm much more in favor of making these small changes first rather than trying to introduce something drastic.

So, you know how people always call bullshit on the whole "*Really bad pro team* couldn't even beat *Really good college team*" thing on the grounds that all of the pro players have just as much talent, but with pro experience against tougher competition and blah blah blah.

Well, the Phillies just lost to a division II college team. By four runs.

They're losing 100 games, aren't they?

To be fair, the Phillies were basically a bunch of non-roster invitees and minor leaguers.

Ubaldo hit two batters, committed an error, threw a wild pitch, and gave up six runs and two walks.

In not even two complete innings.

Lord help me if he is on the starting rotation opening day.

It's day 1 of ST games. Bumgarner allowed 3 runs in one inning. Can't read too much into it. Then again, Ubaldo.

Sure, maybe you can't read too much into the 6 runs, but 2 walks, 2 HBP, and a wild pitch in 1 and a third?

If he throws 3 perfect innings next time is anyone going to project a great season for him?

1.1 IP in his first live game pitching scenario is way too small a sample size for any judgement. That said he's almost certainly still awful.

I watched Jung-Ho Kang hit his first stateside home run this morning. Dude looks like he has legit power, but looks like Wylie Coyote with that absurd leg kick.

Small sample size, yeah, but spring training is the time to work on things. Given Ubaldo's 5.53 BB/9 and 13.9 BB% last year, you'd think control would be one of those things.

Definitely still too early to panic but it's not a good start for someone with control issues to begin with

There's a difference between a little offseason rust and performing about as well as I would if called up to pitch. Hell, Chris Davis had a better outing in his first pitching appearance since high school.

Pence just got his forearm broken on a HBP. He got up and walked down to first. Because he's insane. But this is total bullshit. He'll most likely miss 6-8 weeks.
