Neat! You might could just use another piece of wood/vinyl in the back.

^Oh I see. Generally you get a better bass response. I wouldn't completely close it up though, your tubes need some vent space and it would be a pain to change tubes as well.

So I have a VK112 with the JCM mod. Today I was playing and suddenly my volume dropped and it smelled like something was burning. I looked at the back of the amp and there was a lot of heat and one of the power tubes was glowing incredibly bright. I immediately shut off the amp. Any thoughts about the cause of this? Do you think it is just tubes or something bigger?

It could be just a power tube or also something else. At any rate pull out the power tubes and check fuses with a meter. Turn on to see if the fuses are not shorting without the power tubes. If fuses are ok then proceed to put new power tubes in. If fuse blows without tubes then you have another shorted component besides bad power tube. Do not use the old power tubes because one of them shorted and then possibly over loaded another component. If you are lucky just a new set of power tubes will fix it! It could be more though.
